"MR. JOHN NAUGHTON
The sudden death on Friday evening last at his home at Bombowlee, of Mr. John Naughton, a very well known resident pf the Tumut district came as a shock to his relatives and friends.
The late Mr. Naughton was born 69 years ago, near the spot where he died, a son of the late Mr and Mrs. Hugh Naughton, and practically the whole of his life was spent in the district. He lived for many years at Tumut Plains, and only a fortnight ago moved to his Bowbowlee property his son, Harry, taking over the place at Tumut Plains, Mr. Naughton devoted his life to mixed farming, chiefly dairying and took a general interest in the affairs of the district.
He married Miss Isabella Jane Foster, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Foster, of "Happy Vale", Tumut, and besides his wife, he is survived by their eight children. Honorah (Mrs. George Keenan of Batlow), Nettie (Sister Naughton, Liverpool Hospital), Dulcie, (Mrs Doyle, Samari (New Guinea) Eileen (Mrs Dallas Lowther, Tumut), Stella (Mrs Clive Thomas, Bexley), Bridget (Mrs. W. D. Percival, Bowbowlee), John (Tumut Plains),: and Douglas (Signaller, A.I.F- Camp, . Dubbo), Two brothers also survive, Mr Hugh Naughton, of Blowering, and Mr. Patrick Naughton, of Gilmore, and two sisters live in Sydney.
The funeral left the home at Bombowlee and interment took place at 3 o'clock in the Catholic portion of the new cemetery, on Saturday afternoon, in the presence of a large gathering."
