  "LATE MR J. W. COASE - A resident of the Gladstone district for the past 77 years, Mr Joseph William Coase. died in the Gladstone Hospital recently. Born in Kensington, London, in 1857, the late Mr Coase arrived in Brisbane with his parents in the sailing ship Princess Alice in 1862, and the family moved to Gladstone about three years later and settled at Coase's Hill, abouts four miles from Gladstone. The late Mr Coase had lived in Gladstone for many years, having been in business as a wheelwright, blacksmith and undertaker, until his retirement about 15 years ago. In his early days he was prominent in athletic sports. He was a foundation member of the   Loyal Gladstone Lodge, M.U.I.O.O.F., which he joined in March, 1881, and, at the recent diamond Jubilee of that lodge he was the sole surviving foundation member. He was also a member of the Port Curtis Masonic Lodge, which he joined in September, 1880. Members of the Coase family all lived to good old ages and he still has two sisters living, these being Mrs W. Griffiths, of Gladstone, and Mrs A. Blake, of Maryborough. His wife predeceased him three years ago, and he leaves a grown-up family of four daughters and one son. The daughters are Mesdames J. F. Boyle and S. Morgan. Brisbane, and Mesdames G. J. Hixon and F. Irwin. Gladstone. The son is Mr W. V. Coase, superintendent of the Gladstone Ambulance Brigade. The funeral at the Gladstone cemetery was largely attended. Rev. W. E. Boyldew reading the church burial service, Mr K. R. Carter the Masonic service, and Mr R. G. Joyner the Oddfellows service."
