Was Thomas a sailor at Liverpool?  In 1873, When Thomas married, he was a sailor and his wife Elizabeth the daughter of a chandler.  After they married, Thomas and Elizabeth lived at Ashton-under-Lyne (or is this another family?)

In 1881, Thomas (41) was a finisher at the cotton factory, born Rochdale.  In 1891, Thomas is a stoker at the Cotton Factory, born Ashworth Mood.  This must be another Thomas and Elizabeth!
1836 - 1836 Richard Mather 3m 3m 1804 - 1878 Jane (Jenny) Ridings 74 74 Jenny (Jinney) born 8 May 1804 was the "Base" daughter of Peggy Ryding of Adlington, baptised at Wigan All Saints on 4 June 1804.  On Jenny's 3rd mariage her father is shows as Thomas Alker, a Blacksmith.

In 1828, Jane Ridings, spinster married Isaac Mather, a widow at St. Peters (Bolton).

In 1829, Jane (recorded as Jenny) and Isaac had daughter Ann and in 1831 a son Isaac. Ann died in 1837, aged 7.

On 29 June 1835, after her husband Isaac Mather died, Jane Mather (widow) married Henry Mather (bachelor).  It was probably her uncle Jonathan, i.e. John Ridings, who was witness.  Henry was Isaac's nephew.

In April 1841, Jane's second husband Henry Mather died, aged only 29 and is buried at Blackrod.  The June census shows Jane (35, cotton weaver) living alone with her son Isaac (10) at New Street, Aspull.

In 1851, Jane Riding (49) and her son Isaac Mather (28) were living with her brother Hugh Riding at Adlington.  Jane and Isaac Dodd are also recorded at Lostock, so was Jane living in two places?

In 1851, soon after Isaac was born, his father died.  Isaac Mather (19) went to live with Jane's family.  He was with his uncle Hugh and Margaret Ridings at Blackadon, Adlington (just north of Blackrod).

In 1861, Isaac Ridings (or Mather, 28) was unmarried and a servant for Hugh Ridings (farmer, 78) and his brother Jonathan (60) at Adlington. He was described as the farmer's Nephew.

In 1865, Isaac (32, Publican) son of Isaac (deceased) from Adlington married Margaret Arrowsmith of Pemberton, daughter of James a farmer (deceased).  This was the Ridgeway Arms, Adlington.

The Ridgeway Arms, 176 Chorley Road, was built about 1825 of sandstone block construction, by the Ridgeway family, and the pub sine had their family crest.  It is now (2018) a Tesco Express.

In 1871, Isaac and Margaret (39 & 36) were farming 7 acres on the Bolton Rd, Adlington. Neighbour James Arrowsmith (possible brother of Margaret) was a carpenter employing 3 men and Thomas Walton was a licence victualler.  Jane Dodd, Mother-in-law (59) was also present.

In 1891, Isaac and Margaret (60 & 56) are at 1 Riding Street (farm) with daughters Elizabeth and Ann (26 & 18) and a farm servant.

In 1900, Daughter Ann (20) recorded her residence as Ridings Farm on her marriage.

In 1901, Isaac and Margaret (70 & 66) are still at 1 Riding Street (farm) with now married daughter Ann Birchall (28), family and a farm servant. Also both grandaughters.
1761 John Mather John (abode Turton) was baptised at Horwich Independant.  He seems to be the only child of Thomas and Betty (Flitcroft?), although Peter, son of Peter (a possible nephew) was also baptised there 10-Nov-1783.

John was a farmer, married at Standish.  After John and Ann were married they lived at Heath Charnock (1785 when Mary baptised). Later baptisms show their abode as Blackrod and John a farmer.

I appear to have NO dna links to this family.
1798 - 1873 Amy (Amey or Emy) Worsley 75 75 Thomas married his second wife Amey Worsley in 1822.  Thomas and Amey were a Widower and Widow.

Thomas's wife couldnt of known how to spell Amy's name.  She was named Emy, Emma, Eney (for the childrens baptisms) and Anny (in 1841), but also Alice for William and Thomas's baptisms!

In 1871, before Amy died, Amy (73) was lodging with her daughter Lucy Channock (39) and Alfred Channock (10) at 2 Red Houses, Adlington.

This is almost certainly the same Thomas who married "Margaret Kellett of Anglezarke" in 1701, so was from these parts.
~1680 Margaret Kellett 1707 <female> Mather 1697 - 1777 John Mather 80 80 John's father was Thomas Mather and Anglezerk, and John probably stayed here.  Margaret's baptism of .1727 as John of Anglezerk.

On 8 Jan 1716, John Mather, son of Thomas Mather of Turton had a female bastard child recorded at Bury Patitions.  The mother may have been Ann Knowles.  John married Ann Knowles in 1722.

John was a Yeoman in 1726 (when Susannah was buried).
1738 James Mather James, son of Ralph Mather.  This James may have died, as another Janes son of Ralph was born 1743

There is another Ralph and Ann of Chorley who had a son James born 1 May, Bap 7 June 1795, later Withnell.

Between 1773 - 1777, James was at Longworth (when Ellen and James were baptised)
Esther Mason Possibly Esther Mason or Hannah Howarth.  Baprism for John (i.e. Jonathan) shown mother as Esther. 1768 Sally Mather 1764 Ann Mather 1762 Robert Mather 1770 Betty Mather 1773 - 1789 Ellen Mather 16 16 Ellen may have had a bastard child John when she was only 15 and died the following year, although the death record does not show her as a pauper.  However, this is for an Ellen of Charnock, so may be another. 1705 - 1788 Ralph Mather 83 83 Gilbert Mather of Adlington died 1593, with his main heir Ralph under 21.  Gilbert's son Ralph is a probable anceston of this Ralph.

Ralph lived at Anderton and (Heath) Charnock and had his children baptised at Rivington.  However, some of the later baptism records are indexed for Little Lever, although aslo shows as Rivington.
~1710 Ann Anderton 1741 Betty Mather 1750 Ralph Mather 1722 - 1789 John Mather 67 67 John was baptised at Radcliffe in 1722, son of John, so probably a nephew of Ralph. <unknown> 1756 - 1844 Agnes (Aggie) Mather 88 88 Twins from Addington.

Agnes married Charles Rigby 24 Jan 1775.  The following marriage was of Mary Mather who married John Anderton a week later.

In 1841, Agnes Rigby (80) was with her dau-in-law Mary Rigby (65), living at Heath Charnock.
1750 Betty Mather 14 Jul 1772 Betty may have married William Smith at Standish. However, this is likely to be the Betty b.1741 daughter of Ralph and Ann. 1762 - 1771 Nathan Mather 9 9 1759 Alice Mather Alice married a year after her brother Edward at the same church.

5 July 1781 Alice Mather married John Atherton at St Wilfred, Standish.  There appear to be no children (John Atherton from Blackrod who married Betty Edge in 1877 at Deane is another family).

John may have died as in 1784, Alice Atherton married John Scoulcroft at Standish, Lancashire
~1700 Ann Knowles There is a document in the Lancashire archives Ref QSP/1108/12 (ca. 1716-1717):"Turton - bastardy of Ann Knowles and John, son of Thomas Mather, fustian-weaver." 1801 - 1830 James Mather 29 29 1795 George Mather 1793 - 1833 Betty Mather 40 40 Betty Mather probably married James Makinson at St Peters Bolton in 1813 (and brother Nathan also married Alison Makinson).  James was a \father, and is a farmer here with the childrens baptisms. 1785 - 1785 Mary Mather 1m 1m 1788 - 1859 Nathan Mather 70 70 Nathan's father may have been John, a farmer, who died in 1830 (and Nathan was executor).  There is also Nathan son of Edward and Mary born Chorley, 1789

In 1834, Nathan Mather, widower married Catherine Hartley at St Peter's Bolton.

In 1841, Nathan was a farmer at Hoom's House adjacent to Mather's Fold, Aspull, (West of Blackrod Church) towards Wigan.

In 1851, Nathan (60), a farmer of 9 acres and younger second wife Catherine (46) were at Blackrod.  They had a farm servnt James Boardman (24).

rmrussell822974 has Nathan in their tree with a DNA match to me (7.1 centimorgans shared across 1 DNA segment), but his Mather tree stems from Newcastle.
1804 - 1868 Ellen Hope 64 64 In 1830, husband James Mather died in Blackrod, aged 29.  After James died, three of his children (Elizabeth, George and John) were taken on by his mother-in-law Betty Hope (aged 76 in 1841).

Jonathan Mather (or Madder) married Cath Fielding at Leyland, St Andrew on 28 Nov 1808.  Catherine died 1828, and then Elizabeth (Betty) later.

In April 1841, Henry died, aged only 29.  His wife Jane was living at New Road, Aspull in June, so this was probably his final home.

In 1861, Lucy Charnock (28) and Nathan Mather (27) were living with Henry Mather (63) and described as son and daughter.  This is presumably an uncle as their father Thomas had died in 1850.
1827 - <1896 George Mather 69 69 George, James and Isaac were coal miners in 1851, living at Addlington Common.

8 Dec 1856, George Mather (30), a collier, son of Thomas Mather a labourer married Ann Anderton, daughter of William Anderton, a collier at St Wilfred, Standish.

April 1861, Lucy Charnock (28) and Nathan Mather (27) were living with Henry Mather (63) and described as son and daughter.  This is presumably an uncle as their father Thomas had died in 1850.

14 Jul 1861, Nathan Mather (27), son of Thomas Mather married Martha Hargreaves (22), daughter of Richard at Adlington Christ Church.
1837 - 1849 Thomas Mather 11 11 Thomas is recorded as the son of Thomas and Alice.  However, is is surley the same father Thomas a weaver from Adlington, as this Thomnas was living with the family in 1841. 1825 - 1850 Jane Heaton 25 25 Jane was the daughter of James Heaton, a collier

Jane's daughte Alice died in 1849, and Jane died in 1850 (registered at Ashton), aged 24.

In 1841, Ann (60), John, Thomas and Hannah (30, 20 & 15) are at Mackinson's farm, Blackrod.  John and Mary Mather (both 45) are neighbouring Farmers at Brown's Fold, (Little Scotland).

In 1851, Ann Mather (70) was a lodger with James Holt (probably her brother).

In 1861, Ann's daughter Ann Bullough and her husband William (both 40) were lofging with James Holt at Little Scotland, Blackrod.

1810 - 1847 John Mather 37 37 28 Sep 1828, John Mather married Ann Holt at Bolton-le-Moors, St Peter.  This is probably another, older John.

John (30, Ag Labourer) was at Makinson's Farm, Aspull with his mother Ann (60, Farmer) and siblings Thomas (20) and Hannah (15). He does not appear to be married or have children.
1812 - 1841 Henry Mather 29 29 Henry is the "second son of Thomas"

In 1828 Henry Mather, labourer, late of G.B. was convicted of fellony and transported for 14 years.  Probably another Henry, as this Henry married in 1835 and had 2 or 3 children 2y before the 14 years were done.

In April 1841, Henry died, aged only 29.  His wife Jane was living at New Road, Aspull in June, so this was probably his final home.

Feb 1775, Son John was born at Kearsley before the parents married.  Both parents are fully named.

17 Jul 1775, John Mather, a weaver of Standish Parish married Ann Eckersley of Deane by licence. It is likely it is this John as his siblings married at Standish, but Ann was from Deane Parish so married in her parish.

Between 1775 and 1781, four of John's siblings married at Standish.

John may have had a borther James (1757-1794) who married Isobel Wilkinson and also had a son named "Bould".
1792 - 1862 James Makinson 70 70 1814 Mary Makinson Mary is baptised 1 year after the first Mary, and then Hugh 3 months later.  There must be two families here, and those children of James the labourere and Betty are another. 1815 Hugh Makinson 1817 John Makinson 1820 Ann Makinson 1822 Nicholas Makinson 1824 - 1824 George Makinson 1826 George Makinson 1829 Richard Makinson 1831 Elizabeth Makinson 1833 Alice Makinson 1805 Catherine Hartley Not Catherin Bibby marriage of 1810 as she was too young.

10 Nov 1834 Nathan Mather, widower, married Catherine Hartley, spinster.  Her name was written as Catherine Riley and then corrected, so perhaps she was a widow.

They did not have children.  Baptism records are for Nathan Mather and Catherine Bibby, another family from Adlington.
1821 George Orrell 1839 William Bullough 1734 Thomas Mather This Thomas may be an error; possibly he is Thurstan Mather who married Betty Martin 1761 at Standish.

Thomas married Betty Bromiley 2 Feb 1761 and their son John was born in December that year, abode Turton and baptised at Horwich.
1739 Betty Bromiley Betty appears to have had a brother James Bromiley, witness to her marriage in 1861.

Betty and James Bromiley are children of Thomas and Anne Bromiley of Shaw Side, Shaw (Holy Trinity), Oldham.  This seems a little distant.  Pehaps Betty is Eliz daughter of Seth & Eliz Bromiley of Croston (near Preston), Lancashire, baptised 1737, but there is no James.
1828 - 1836 Sarah Mather 8 8 1825 - 1882 Agnes Mather 57 57 Agnes, daughter of Nathan Mather of Blackrod married John Gidlow, son of William a Blacksmith on 28 Dec 1856. 1809 John Knowles John Knowles, son of Benjamin, married Ann Mather in 1848.

1781 - 1850 Thomas Mather 69 69 Thomas had a brother Nathan (married to Catherine) who was also a weaver at Adlington in 1823.  Many of the early Mathers (b. 1700s) living at Adlington married at St Peters, Bolton. Both of Thomas's marriages were there, although clearly living in Adlington.

In 1841, Thomas (60) was a labourer, married to Amey (45)  at Adlington, Rivington (near Blackrod). They had 7 children from their marriage.  Their family had common names to Thomas's siblings (Nathan, George, Isaac).

Thomas was the father when all the children were baptised, and on the 1841 census.  However, Henry Mather (52, Widower and Ag Lab) is shown as the head in 1851, with George, James, Isaac, Lucy and Nathan at Adlington Common.  All the sons were coal miners.

Thomas died in 1850, aged 70, and Henry, possibly a brother of Thomas (born 1799, Anderton, Lancashire) became head the famiy.

Neddy has daughters Agnes (b.2 Jun 1797) and Betty (12 Jan 1800), names after his two sisters.  Other baptisms have the name Edward as father.

Edward was a weaver of Adlington (where all his children are born).  However, each child is baptised at a different Chapel: Chorley; Blackrod; Rivington, and Chorley again thereafter.
