Abode: Oldham No more children Lives with: Thomas and Mary Jane had Thomas' brother Joseph with them in 1891. Lives with: Jane was living with her daughter Sarah and Thomas Whatson in 1891 Named After Relative of: Thomas was the son of Peter Crook (1725-1776) and Hannah Barlow (1722-1785) (on FindAGrave). This may be a different Peter (from Horwich) Neighbor: In 1841 Turton (district 7), Thomas and Wife Nanny were at Rushtons (farm) with James and Mary on the adjacent farm "Coopers". Also Samuel & Sally at Bradley's Cloukes. Lives with: In 1861, Edward was a "visitor", visiting Thomas and Martha Lever and family (his uncle). Work with: Which John Crook married Rachel? John was a carpenter, so a likely the son of Mordici, also a carpenter, but the other John named his children Mordai. Also, both Johns families (John father) are Whitesmiths, so something's crossed! 1776 - 1847 James Crook 71 71 Son Joseph and daughter Ann's marriages record father Joseph Crook as a Weaver (probably living in Little Bolton)

In 1841, James (65) was in the Bolton Workhouse
Alice Walker 1824 Mary Crook 1819 Benjamin Crook 1819 Samuel Crook 1820 Ann Crook 1819 Mordicai Crook "Mordicai" (not Mordecai) 1818 Joseph Crook Another Joseph Crook was baptised in Bolton 11 Jan 1818, son of John and Margaret. 1740 John Crook There is another John and Rachel (or Rachael) Crook family from Penwortham (near Preston), Lancashire, England.  Baptisms overlap, so cannot be the same family. 1744 - 1791 Rachel Kay 47 47 1777 - >1841 John Crook 64 64 There is another John Crooke of Manchester born 1777, the son of Thomas Crook, and another, the son of Richard and Betty.

John and Rachel were in Tonge 1767-1769 when the children were baptised.

In 1806, Wife Ann probably died.  There are no Bolton births after Jacob and Martha in 1803-05, so John may have remarried.  It could be they moved (there are births of Mary and Robert in 1811-12 at Middleton, but that family is John Crook and Ann Howard, who married at Middleton in 1810).

In 1831, John (Jno) Crook was recorded in Duncan Street.

In 1841, John, 68 was living in Duncan Street.  His son Jacob (and wife Jane) were a few doors away.  Both were cotton weavers.

Another John (65) & Mary (57) were at Harwood in 1841, so we have the wrong John or this is another closly related (as the Crook family are farmers, and come from Harwood).
1780 Alice Crook soulofajedi is not a DNA match, but manages two people (Sallie Ketcham and Sally Ann Ketcham). soulofajedi has Alice Crook in their tree. 1764 - 1844 Thomas Crook 80 80 Thomas married Ann Walsh in 1788. He was a weaver.

Grave record suggests Thomas was born 1764, son of Peter and Hannah.  There was a matching baptism in Horwice in 1764 for Thomas son of Peter, but no other family there.

In 1841, Thomas Crook (75) and a farmer was with with Nanny (70) and son Luke (41) at Rushton, Turton.  The neighbour was James Crook (a brother or possible cousin) and his family.

1768 - 1769 John Crook 7m 7m The twins survived less than a year.  Alice died March and John May 1769, and both were buried in Bolton Church. 1768 - 1769 Alice Crook 5m 5m The twins survived less than a year.  Alice died March and John May 1769, and both were buried in Bolton Church. 1779 - 1806 Ann Tommason 26 26 There are no Bolton births after Jacob and Martha in 1803-05. It could be that Ann died in 1806, so John may have remarried.  It could be they moved (there are births of Mary and Robert in 1811-12 at Middleton, but that family is John Crook and Ann Howard, who married at Middleton in 1810). 1803 - 1878 Jacob Crook 75 75 In 1841, Jacob appears to be married to Jane (35 & 25). They are living at Duncan Street, W Bolton and have Ann, John and Sarah (5, 3, & 1) with them.  Duncan Street later became Nobel Street.

In 1845, there was a GRO birth registered for Frances Crook, mother Robinson. However, thios si not possible as too close to Edward. Also there is no Frances to be found (except for another Frances the daughter of Thomas Crook and Ellen nee Siddey).
1816 - 1894 Jane Robinson 78 78 Jane had two nieces, Mary Ann (19) and Alice Ann Robinson (17) living (from Hyde) with her family in 1871. 1836 Ann Crook 1839 - 1919 John Crook 79 79 John married Elizabeth and they lived in Portsea, Hampshire for a short while, which is where Jacob was born.  They then came back to Bolton. 1840 Sarah Crook Sarah probably died in 1863, aged 21 and there is another younger Sarah Crook who married Thomas.  However, this doesnt explain how Jane Crook (her mother) is with the family. 1842 Rachel Crook 1844 Edward Crook In 1861, Edward was a "visitor", visiting Thomas and Martha Lever and family (his uncle) at Oldham. 1847 Joseph Crook 1851 James Crook 1854 Martha Crook Another Martha was buried 3 Mar 1850, daughter of Jacob Crook of Emmanuel, Bolton 1857 Thomas Crook Thomas married Mary Jane (b. 1857).  They had Thomas' brother Joseph with them in 1891. 1842 - 1921 Elizabeth Mitchell 79 79 1866 - 1948 Jacob Crook 82 82 1868 - 1933 Charlotte Crook 65 65 1871 James Crook 1873 - 1883 John Crook 10 10 John was born in Manchester, probably due to complications at birth.  He was a registered imbecile (1881 census). 1876 - 1920 William Crook 44 44 1882 - 1950 Henry Crook 68 68 Henry was still with his mother Elizabeth at 57 Gibbon Street, Bolton in 1911, single, aged 29. 1885 - 1960 Elizabeth Crook 75 75 Elizabeth was still with her mother Elizabeth at 57 Gibbon Street, Bolton in 1911, single, aged 26. 1864 - 1919 Maria Nuttall 54 54 1891 - 1969 John Leonard Crook 78 78 John L Crook is the grandfather of Paul Barton, of whom I have a moderate DNA match. 1844 Thomas Whatson 1889 Ethel Crook 1896 - 1984 Ellen Morris 87 87 Ellen was born at 22 Bury Street, Radcliffe 1921 - 2008 Joyce Crook 86 86 Joyce is the mother of Paul Barton, of whom I have a moderate DNA match (12.4 centimorgans shared across 2 DNA segments).  Paul is my 5th cousin 1x removed. 1924 - 2000 Wilfred Barton 76 76 1799 William Green ~1713 John Crook 1713 - 1765 Hannah (Ann) Twisse 51 51 Ann wife of John Crook was buried 1765 at Bolton chuch.  Hannah may have used the name Ann so this could be her. 1736 Mary Crook ~1737 Ann Parkinson 1766 - 1832 Mordicai Crook 66 66 1737 - 1794 John Crook 57 57 1768 Margaret Crook 1772 Elizabeth Crook 1774 - 1847 John Crook 73 73 1742 - 1821 Peter Crook 78 78 In 1769, Thomas Crook (brother?) was witness to Peter's marriage.

Peter married Ann Bolton and had Betty, James, Thomas and Joseph
1746 - 1767 Catherine Crook 21 21 1751 - 1754 Ellen Crook 3 3 1753 Betty Crook 1717 William Kay W'm S of John Kay Chamber was baptised at Bury 5-Nov-1721.  However there are several William Kays of Bury.

William was from Brandlosome (Hall Farm), about one mile East of Tottington, Brandlosome district is 0.5 miles North of Elton.
1718 Elizabeth Shaw 1742 Jack Kay ~1685 - 1732 Peter Twisse 47 47 ~1685 Katherine Welch 1718 - 1720 Peter Twisse 2 2 1768 - 1845 Hannah (Nanny) Walsh 76 76 1799 Luke Crook In 1861 Luke was a farmer at Turton. 1770 - 1773 Ann Crook 2 2 1778 Alice Crook 1785 James Crook In 1841, James (50) and Mary (45) were at Coopers (farm), Turton 1784 - 1797 Ann Crook 12 12 Ann's death in 1797 was reported by her mother Ann, as her father John had died three years earlier in 1794 1795 Mary Crook 1821 Joseph Crook 1828 Sarah Crook 1826 James Crook 1830 Samuel Crook 1832 Mary Crook 1835 Rachel Crook 1767 Thomas Crook 1810 Charles Crook 1790 Nanny Crook 1791 John Crook 1792 James Crook James (50) and wife Mary (45) and family were at Coopers farm, Turton in 1841 1794 Thomas Crook 1797 Joseph Crook 1801 Dan Crook In early 1851 he left England with his children Betsy, John and Alice for America on the ship "Ellen". His wife stayed behind in Turton.  The "Ellen" sailed from Liverpool on 8 January 1851, arriving in New Orleans on 14 March 1851.  At some point the family became attached to the Mormon community.

They arrived at Kanesville and stayed there over a year because there was no room in the Mormon companies leaving for Salt Lake.

After working all winter, Daniel was told again there was no room for him. He felt badly let down and disappointed. He seemed to have no life left for anything and in the month of July (1852) he got sick and died.
1803 Mary Crook In 1861, Mary, still single and a dairy maid, was living with her brother Luke. 1806 Ruth Crook 1808 Peter Crook 1816 Ann Crook Ann was missing on the 1841 census, presumed married 1818 James Crook 1739 - 1820 John Crook 81 81 Which John Crook married Rachel?  John was a carpenter, so a likely the son of Mordici, also a carpenter, but the other John named his children Mordai.  Also, both Johns are Whitesmiths, so something's crossed!

John was 18 when he married Elizabeth at Leyland. For his first two marriages, he signed his name and his witness was William Crook.

John was 26 when he married Rachel.  He may have been marrid before to Martha, in which case he was a Weaver like his father before he became a carpenter.

John was at Tonge (Middleton Parish) when their oldest son James was born.  After Rachel died in 1791, John needed another wife to look after the children.  "Jn'o Crook of Middleton Parish & Alice Entwistle of This Parish" were married at Deane on 16 Oct 1792.

There was already a John and Alice Cook family in Bpolton, and thay had Jane in 1787, so the Ann born in 1792 in L.B. was probably also theirs.  Our John was from Tonge, Middleton.
1805 Martha Crook In 1826, Martha married John Lever at Bolton.

In 1841, Thomas and Martha were living in Oldam.  Theire fist two sons were named John and Jacob (after her father and brother), and then Ann (named after her mother).
1701 - 1745 Mordicai Crook 44 44 1705 - 1775 Alice Crompton 70 70 In 1765, Alice Crook buried her son Mordicai. Her husband, also  Mordicai, must have been dead by this time. He died in Feb 1745 (confirmed by death record), so Alice never remarried. 1731 - 1746 James Crook 15 15 James a carpenter died 1746 which could be him (or an uncle). His father Mordicia, a Carpenter had died the previous year.

In 1757, James Crook, a weaver married Martha Low, but this is probably another.
1765 - 1765 Mordicai Crook 2m 2m 1739 - 1743 Esther Crook 4 4 Daughter of Mordicai, a carpenter of G.B. 1745 - 1765 Mordicai Crook 20 20 ~1766 Betty Mort 1743 - 1743 Thomas Crook 1760 - 1761 John Crook 1 1 ~1750 Alice Entwistle 1792 Ann Crook There was already a John and Alice Cook family in Bpolton, and thay had Jane in 1787, so the Ann born in 1792 in L.B. was probably also theirs.  Our John was from Tonge, Middleton. 1807 - 1863 Thomas Lever 56 56 1827 John Lever 1830 Jacob Lever 1832 Ann Lever 1834 Martha Lever 1839 Janes Lever 1841 William Lever 1843 Joseph Lever 1845 Betty Lever 1849 - 1850 Martha Crook 9m 9m
