This is probably because Jonathon was baptised in 1807 (i.e. not 1827 as shown). 1807 would also be consistent with census returns. John & Mary Crook are my 3x Great Grandparents In 1841; James (13, Silk weaver), William (7) and Joseph (2), listed under Cornelius & Eliza (both 35), all living at Crook St with John & Mary. In 1841, Ellen and John were living together with son, Joseph at Blackburn Street, Little Bolton.  Ellen Buckley was recorded from Lancashire, probably Halliwell where she was living before her marriage.

The Manchester times reported Ellen's death:  "DIED: - On the 7th instant, aged 26 years, Mrs Ellen Mather, of Crook-street, Great Bolton".

John was a Widower when he married Elizabeth in 1843, so Ellen died in 1841/2.  There are four recorded deaths for Ellen Mather over this period (3 in 1841, 1 in 1842) in Bolton.  Ages were not indexed at this time, so cannot easily confirm which one, but clearly the certificate for Sep 1842 shows John as an oil cloth maker, so this must be the one.
.
1781 - 1860 Mary Crook 79 79 Mary Crook, as only marriage around the correct time and in Manchester.  Also Mary Crook is on the Baptism page records for the family.

See picture and 1824 baprist records for Moor Lane.

Mary died at Darcy Lever.
1776 - 1853 John Buckley 76 76 John and sister Ann were baptised at Sheldreslow which adjoins Latham.  John was recorded as born in Latham on the 1851 census.  Both are ancient hamlets of Saddleworth.

In 1841, there are Many John Buckleys on the census, but the one married to Mary was also an Oil Sheet Worker.  Cornelius and Eliza's family were living together at Crook Street, Bolton as well as daughter Mary (servant) and son Benjamin, also working as an Oil Sheet maker.

John Buckley was recorded as Ellen's father on her wedding certificate.  He was an Oil Sheet Maker.  After Ellen married John Mather, John also became an oil cloth Maker for a short while.  We can be confident this is the correct John and daughter Ellen!

In 1851, John and Mary (75 born Latham, Yorks & 70 born Bolton) are at 34 Crook Street, Bolton.  Gorge and Leah Holroyd and family (3 children) were visitors.  They may be relatives (TBC). They also had 4 lodgers.

I have several DNA matches to Buckley that are not linked, and John may have been married for a few years before he married Mary.  "Ellen wife of John Buckley, Clough Bottom" died June 1800.  "Martha wife of John Buckley of School Lane, Cloth Dresser" was buried at St Chad Rochdale 18 Jan 1801. Also Ann wife of John Buckley of Pendleton died April 1801. Ann of Middleton is very close to Prestwich where John married Mary in 1802.

John may have been married before he married Mary Crook in 1802.  It wasn't Ann Hilton (and a sister Ann also married), both from Chadderton. That John Buckley weaver of Chadderton was buried at Middleton in 1812.

There are no Oldham baptisms for John an Oil Sheet Maker 1798-1802 before he married Mary (although others for Shoe Maker, Spinner, Weaver and other).

Lives with: In 1881, Esther Crossland Greenhalgh was living with her uncle and aunt George and Mary Yates. Relative of: In 1891, Eliza Ann Livesey (14), was living with William and Martha Livesey. She must be Williams daughter from a previous marriage. Neighbor: Neighbours at Shaw Street, East Bolton in 1841 1813 - 1892 Mary Buckley 78 78 In 1841, Mary was 25, F.S., the oldest sibling, with her parents and family at Crook Street, Bolton.

In 1851, Mary (37) was unmarried with her parents John and Mary Buckley (75 & 70) at 34 Crook Street, Bolton.

In 1861, after both parents had died, Mary (48) was one of five servants at Crupsall for Robert Frost, a farmer of 65 acres.

Between 1861 and 1871, there are over 100 Mary Buckley marriages in Lancashire, but only one in Bolton in 1862 to Thomas Shaw, which seems likely as it is a civil marriage (not indexed on Lanc-OPC). However there are no further supporting documens (census or death).  She may have died a spinster.
~1805 - ~1835 Margaret Miller 30 30 1805 - 1873 Cornelius Buckley 68 68 1838, Cornelius was a Widow and Weaver living at Crook Street (his father's home) when he married Esther.

In 1841, Cornelius and Elizabeth (25 & 35) were at Crook Street with James (13) and William (7) from his first marriage and Joseph (2) from Elizabeth.

Cornelius and Esther moved from Bolton to Darcey Lever about 1843.

In 1851, Cornelius and Esther (46 & 42) were at Lever Bridge Fold with William (17), Joseph (12), Mary (6) and Martha (5)

There is another Cornelius (1828-1860) (and wife Nanny/Nancy/Ann) family from Oldham, whos son Able emigrated to Massachusetts, USA.
1807 - 1873 Esther (Eliza) Scowcroft 65 65 Esther's father was John Scowcroft (see marriage).  She was a Rose Hill at the time of her marriage.

In 1841, Esther was recorded as Eliza (35) on the census.  There was also Squire Scowcroft (13) present, which was her illegitimate son.  She was Esther in 1851 and later.
1834 William Buckley At Darcey Lever (son, 22) in with parents in 1851.

Aged 7 in 1841 with Parents Cornelius and Eliza (35 & 35), living with his grandparents as Crook Street, Bolton.

Aged 17 in 1851 with Parents Cornelius and Ester (46 & 42),

Left home (married?) by 1861
1838 Joseph Buckley Left home (married?) by 1871.

There's a Joseph (51) and Mally (49) living in Oldham above town with mother Esther Buckley (77) in  1891.  Even though the ages match, this cannot be the same Joseph unless his mother was resurrected from the dead!

Another Joseph married Lydia Shaw in 1870 (Civil marriage).  This was Joseph's cousin, son of Johnathan.
1843 Mary Buckley Cornelius and Esther Buckley were with daughters at Knoll Place in 1871

In 1872, Mary Bucklet married Henry Pickup at Bolton RO.

In 1876, Mary Pickup married George Yates st St Stephen, Lever Bridge.  Is this the same Mary?

Mary Yates (Widowed, mother, aged 67) was living in 240 Radcliffe Road, Darcey Lever, Bolton in 1911.
1846 Martha Buckley Martha's birth in 1846 was registered as "Sarah A"

In 1871, Martha married Charles Crosland Greenhalgh at Astley Bridge St Stephen.

In 1878, Martha had a daughter Esther Crossland  Greenhalgh, who survived an was with her in 1891.

In 1881, Martha Greenhalgh (35, Widow) was living with her sister Sarah E Buckley (29) at 6 Woodside Square, Darcy Lever.  About July she re-married William Livesley at St Stephen's, Lever Bridge.

1807 - 1881 Jonathan Buckley 74 74 1839 and 1841, John and Ellen's births were registered in East  Bolton.

In 1841, Jn'n and Mary (both 30) were at Martins Houses, East Bolton and had Hannah (9), William (4), John (2), Ellen (6 mo) and Alice Fishwich (45, F.S.).

After 1843, Jonathan and Mary lived in the Lever district of Bolton.

In 1851, Jonathan and Mary (44 & 42) were at Canal Street North, Darcy Lever and had Hannah (17), William (14), John (12),  Ellen (10), Joseph (7) and Sarah Ann (1).

In 1861, Jonathan and Mary (53 & 52) were at Knoll Place, Darcy Lever.
1827 James Buckley Probable child of Cornelius, implied from 1841 census, but not confirmed.

1849, James Bucklet married Ann Garlick at Ashton under Lyne (civil marriage)

Not with family in 1851, as "married" to Ann Garlic (daughter of John & Tabatha Garlic from Spring Head, Delph).  Recorded as son-in-law, 24, born Ashton.

In 1851, James and Ann (24 & 27) were with Ann's parents John and Tabatha Garlick at Saddleworth.

In 1871, James and Ann (44 & 48) were at Delph, Saddleworth, James a Grocer and shopkeeper.  Joseph was 20 and Elizabeth 17.

In 1891, James was an inmate in the Bury Workhouse.
1809 - 1883 Mary Webster 74 74 In 1851, Jonathan and Mary (44 & 42) were at Canal Street North, Darcy Lever and had Hannah (17), William (14), John (12),  Ellen (10), Joseph (7) and Sarah Ann (1).

In 1861, Jonathan and Mary (53 & 52) were at Knoll Place, Darcy Lever.
1834 Hannah Buckley In 1871, Hannah was 17 and with her parents.

Hannah had left home (married Wiliam) in 1857.

In 1891, Hannah is missing.  Her husband William (55) is retired and possibly terminaly Ill with daughters Mary and Sarah in Blackburn.
1837 - 1904 William Buckley 67 67
Left home married Nancy Gregory in Jan 1858, but reurned home by 1871, widowed with two children.

In 1861, had wife Nance, daughter Mary and "Mother" Maria, aged 61 with him.  Was this his mother-in-law (as couldnt be his mother)?

In 1873, William married Ann Oltt (WARNING: There is another family: Squire Buckley and Elizabeth Holt family from Breightmet married in 1865).
1839 John Buckley Left home (married?) by 1871 1841 Ellen Buckley In 1841, Ellen (6mo) was with her parents at Martin's Houses.

In 1851, Ellen (10) was living with parents at Lever Bridge.
1843 - 1918 Joseph Buckley 75 75 Left home (married?) by 1871 1849 - 1851 Sarah Ann Buckley 1 1 1851 - 1912 Sarah Ellen Buckley 60 60 "Sarah Ellen" aged 61 shown on headstone (i.e. no surname), so implies she never married. 1858 - 1927 James Buckley Parkinson 69 69 Grandson of Jonathan, living with family in 1861 1852 - 1912 Levi Buckley 60 60 1838 - 1867 Nancy Gregory 29 29 1860 Mary Buckley 1864 Philip Buckley John and Phipps were twins (with adjacent 1864 birth records), 1852 - 1923 Jane Ann Noris 71 71 Father is John Norris, a collier 1876 Mary Buckley "Mary Wardley" in 1911, Widow and back with the Buckley family. May (11 and Fred Wardley (9) were with her 1874 Sarah Ellen Buckley 1878 - 1882 Hannah Buckley 4 4 1803 - 1839 Sarah Ann Buckley 36 36 Sarah Ann is too old to appear on 1841+ census records, as by then she would have been aged 38, married and left home.

1803 Baptism record confirms parent as John and Mary, so presumed married by this time.  This Baptist Church was only founded in 1803, so parents John and Mary may have had other older children baptised elsewhere (so not found).

Searching for "Buckley" marriages on the same IGI index as the marriage for brother Corneleus (M007153) reveals 18 marriages and one is "SARAH ANNE", so this is maybe her.

Also, Sarah Buckley may have emigrated to Australia, married Henry Wild, and died in New South Wales in 1851 (a suggestion from Matthew vai GenesReunited).

She may have been a twin to Elizabeth Buckley, who emigrated to Utah, USA in 1853 or a step-sister if John had married twice.
1841 - 1846 Josiah Buckley 5 5 Relative and living together on 1841 census, but possibly a grandson rather than son, as not in family order with other entries. Also present Squire Scourcroft (13) and Ann Vickers (70). 1848 - 1849 Ephriam Buckley 9m 9m Ephraim (d 23/02/1849) age 9 months 1838 Ann Holt 1880 Benjamin (Ben) Buckley 1875 Esther Hannah Buckley In 1907, Esther Hannah Buckley married Robert E Thomas 1877 - 1950 John James Buckley 73 73 In 1911, John James Buckley and Emma (both 34) had been married 2 years, and no children.

In 1939, John James and Emma Buckley are at Newton-le-Willows (no children)
1822 - 1878 Benjamin Buckley 55 55 WARNING: There is another Benjamin Buckley, Baptised at  Shaw (between Rochdale and Oldham), son of John and Sarah.  Thay had children between 1814 (Mary) and 1825 (Sarah). This John was a Joiner at Hartfield, and later Shopkeeper.

In 1848, Benjamin, when living at 12 Canal Street, Manchester, married Patients Oldham.
1812 - 1868 Daniel Alsop 56 56 Originaly thought to be the son of William Alsop (a Calico Printer) and Elizabeth Berry, but revised to William and Mary of Brindle.  Daniel's father was William Alsop, a Painter.

In 1840, Daniel Alsop, Weaver of full age and widower married Mary Nuttall. Both were from Halliwell.

In 1841, Daniel, a cotton weaver, and Mary Allsup (both 20) were at Shaw Street, East Bolton (534/13/13/091)

The only recorded Lancashire death for "Daniel Alsop" (after 1837) is in Leyland, Preston in 1837, aged 43.  The death for "Daniel Allsop" in Eastern Bolton in 1868, aged 56 is more likely, but this Daniel Allsop married Mary Nuttall in 1840. That would make sence, since Sarah Ann died in 1839.

9 Nov 1840, Daniel Allsop (X) weaver, bachelor of Halliwell and son of William Allsop a printer married Mary Nuttall (X) or Halliwell, spinster, daughter of John Nuttall, a weaver.

In Oct 1844, when a Mary Allsop was bpatised (parents Daniel & Mary) the family were at Johnston's Bridge.  This may be another family as birth not registered in East Bolton.

In 1851, Daniel and Mary (37 & 31) were at Shaw Street, Bolton.

Daniel and Mary had 7 children, but only son Daniel was alive and with them in 1861, he that son died, aged 5.  All the other children died infants (i.e. in their first year).
1828 Squire Scowcroft <unknown> 1844 - 1888 George Yates 44 44 George married Hannah Halliwell, and they had at least two daughters, Mary and Hannah.

George's wife Hannah died in 1876, almost certainly while giving birth to her daughter (also Hannah) that survived.  George quickly remarried Mary Pickup, nee Buckley the same year.

In 1881, George and Mary Yates (both 37) were living at 4 Alice Street, Darcy Lever with daughters Mary Alice and Hannah Yates (8 & 5) and Mary's niece, Esther Crossland Greenhalge (aged 2).
1873 Mary Alice Yates Mary Alice on 1881 and 1891 census, but birth recorded as Mary Ann. 1876 Hannah Yates 1876 Frederick Horrocks In 1904,1907 and 1909, William, James and Walter were sons of William Horrocks and Alice Yates of Astley Bridge.

In 1911, Frederick and Hannah (both 35) were with Sarah Ellen Buckley (59) and Mary Yates (67). They had no children.

In 1921 Fred and Hannah were missing
1843 - 1878 Charles Crossland Greenhalgh 35 35 1846 Lydia Shaw 1871 - 1938 John Edward Buckley 67 67 In 1892, BUCKLEY, John Edward married HILTON, Mary Aliceat Prestwich, St.Margaret, Bury (Ref: CE19/1/107) 1875 Elizabeth Buckley 23rd of April 1913, Elizabeth married John Collier 1875 - 1910 Jane Ann Buckley 35 35 ~1802 - 1886 John Lees 83 83 NOT the son of Arron, as that John (aged 50) married Jane Hall in 1853

John was the son of John Buckley of Ashton (not Oldham), but there are several possible baptisms, two at Ashton-under-lyne.

In 1851, John (51) and Betty (48) are at Colton St, Ashton with  Joseph (22), Susannah (20), John (18), George (2), Josiah (9)
1825 James Lees 1827 Joseph Lees 1830 Susannah Lees 1832 John Lees 1839 George Taylor Lees 1841 Josiah Lees John Buckley 1781 - 1860 Mary Hurst 79 79 1798 - <1851 John Buckley 53 53 John was a Clothier in 1846 when Mary married, and for all the childrens baptisms.

In 1823, James was born at Nook Stair, Saddleworth.

John lived at Peters, Uppermill, Saddleworth, Yorkshire, England.  The was there in 1841 and for all the childrens baptisma after 1824, but had died by 1851, leaving the remaining family still at Peters.
1884 Emily Buckley 1891 Ernest Buckley 1894 Elsie Buckley 1881 John Buckley 1889 Ada Buckley 1848 - 1849 Benjamin Buckley 9m 9m Benjamin was the son of Jonathan and Mary.  There is a bag gap in births, Jonathan had a brother Benjamin, and Benjamin died at Darcy Lever (same as the next child Sarah Ann). 1845 - 1847 Mary Buckley 1 1 1802 - 1864 Jacob Mather 62 62 In 1798 Jacob Mather paid rent at Breightmet.  This may have been his father.

Jacob was born about 1802 in Bolton, possibly the son of Jacob. There is no baptism for Jacob, and likewise Jacob Snr was widowed, and also no first marriage or baptism records.

In 1841, Jacob was 35, a cotton washer at Crook Street, E Bolton with Sarah (30) and John (15).  Also present were William and Alice Taylor (both 25), possibly related. Neighbours were John and Mary Buckley (65 & 60), the Oil Sheet Maker.

In 1843, Jacob's wife Sarah died in 1843, so in 1851 he was a widower (49), living in lodgings at 22 Moor Lane, Western Bolton.

By 1861, Jacob (58, born Bolton) was a Cotton Hand, working and lodging at Mayfield Terrace, Mayfield, Staffordshire with Joseph Dagnall (23 a cotton hand) and wife Betsey (23, born Bolton), not Jacob's daughter, as  Joseph Dagnall married Elizabeth Pollitt Q1/1859 in Ashborne.

There are so few records for Jacob, it seem likely he went by another name, probably James, a common alternative.
1836 - 1891 William Parkinson 55 55 In 1881, William was a Mechanic.

In 1871, William and Hannah (36 & 39) were at 35 Back Commission Street (off Blackburn Street). William an Iron Turner.  They only had John W (1) with them and James was living with Moss family as a stepson.

In 1881, William and Hannah (45 & 49) are in Blackburn with James (24), Mary E (9) and Sarah A (5).  James is back and now John W is missing.

In 1891, William was only 55, so may have retired due to Ill health. He was deceased in 1892 when daughter Mary Ellen married.
1859 - 1861 William Parkinson 2 2 1871 Mary Ellen Parkinson Mary was born in Bolton, although lived in Blackburn

6 Aug 1892, Mary Ellen married James Gerrold Harrison, the boy next door, an Artist.  Her father was named as William Parkinson, Mechanic, Deceased.
