Before William married in 1870, William may have had an illegitimate child.  "candsterry", the Terry family from Utah, share 24 cM (2 segments) common DNA matches with me and descendants of Ann Ellen Tomlinson.  William (or one of hid children) may have had another child that was adopted.

In 1861, living at 19 Shaw Street, Great Bolton with mother and siblings.

In 1871, William of Shaw Street, 25, was a Carter when he married Mary Ann Barnes of Mason Street, 23, daughter of William Barnes, a Yarn Dresser

Had 1st child (Richard) and Mary Ruggs (Boarder) living with them in 1871 census.  They had the first three girls baptised at Holy Trinity, Bolton-le-Moors.

Cant find as Mary Barnes from Crumpsall in 1861, so may have been married twice, or wrong name.

Richard was incapacitated and single, living with his sister Sarah and brother-in-law Alfred Hilton in 1939. 1875 - 1954 Sarah Alice Tomlinson 79 79 Lived with family till after 1891.

In 1939, Sarah A and Alfred Hilton were at 2A Snipe Street, Bolton. Alfred made and sold potted meat.  Richard Tomlinson, Sarah's incapacitated brother was living with them. 1872 Ann Ellen Tomlinson Lived with family till after 1891.

Sometime around 1912 the family lived in Yeadon or Wharfedale, (7 miles North of Bradfors and Leeds), Yorkshire.  Ths is where Edith M Denton's birth was registered.  No other births were registered here.

In 1939, William and Mary J and sons were at 19 Bowness Road, Bolton. 1917 Irene Denton Had a son, Michael Robert Curley in November 1952
 1881 - 1952 Charles Farrow 71 71 Charles and Charlotte were living at Charles's Mothers place in Bolton in 1911.

His mother was Catherine Mona Farrow, born 1851 in Wigan.

Charles and Elizabeth moved with their son to Middlesex, where Ernest was a Chertered Surveyer.  They retired and moved to Blackpool, where both died. 1911 - 1911 Lottie Farrow 6m 6m 1921 Arnold Denton In 1939, Arnold was single (with parents) at 19 Bowness Road, Bolton.

In 1952, Arnold married Teresa Wilkinson at Bolton

In 2004, Arnold and Teresa were living at 15, Meadowbank Road, Bolton BL3 3SA 1912 Edith M Denton In 1912, Edith was born in Wharfedale, Yorkshire.  All the other siblings were born in Bolton. 1891 - 1942 William Ridings 50 50 William's father was Joseph, a labourer, "Not Deceased" in 1915

Only 2 births are registered in Bolton, and 7 years after they married. 

In 1822 they were in SW Bolton and in 1824 Elsie was registered in GB & Lever. 1874 - 1874 Emma Tomlinson 5m 5m 1897 Ethel Booth In 1914, Ethel may have married either Arthur Greenhalgh or Arthur W Westby (two Bolton RO marriages) or Arthur Bennett in 1915. 1902 Benjamin Booth Benjamin and Hilda had a daughter and two sons.

 1903 - 1986 Hilda Tudor 82 82 Hilda is the only daughter and oldest child of James Edwin Tudor and Hannah Taylor, whom also had three sons.

In 1899, they were living at 51 George Street, Great Lever (when Doris was baptised), and also an insrance agent on the 1901 census.

In 1902, when thier son Alfred was baptised, Alfred had become a shop keeper at 2 Snope Street, Great Lever.  They were still living there in 1939.

In 1911, Alfred and Sarah Alice Hilton (34 & 35) had been married 14 years and were at 2 Snipe Street, Bolton.  Alfred was a grocer - Dealer (shop keeper at home) and an employer.  Son Alfred was 8. 1922 - 2004 Clifford Ridings 82 82 1910 Hilda Denton 1905 - 1918 Harold Denton 12 12 1907 - 1997 Wilfred Denton 89 89 In 1939, Wilfred was still single at 19 Bowness Road, Bolton.
 1936 - >2019 Margery Booth 83 83 Margery is my 3rd cousin 1930 - 1994 George L Foster 63 63 1883 Ada Kay 1904 Annie Kay Step-daughter of William's 1909 Richard Tomlinson 1911 William Tomlinson 1909 - 1967 Ernest Farrow 58 58 Ernst was with his grandmother in 1911, after his sister Lottie was born.  He never knew Lottie, as she died within 6 months.

Ernest became an architect and moved with his parents to Heston, Middlesex.

We loose track of Ernest, but he may have returned North to Littlebro' and married Eunice Dixon after the war in 1946 or Dorothy Jacques in 1947.  Both families had daughters.

 1924 - 2004 Elsie Ridings 79 79 1885 - 1972 John Frederick Brooks 86 86 On 20 Sep 1916, John Frederick Brooks married Levinah Elizabeth Allen (1894-1978) at Salt Lake City, Utah. 1902 - 1979 Alfred Hilton 76 76 In 1939, Alfred (Born 4 Aug 02) was with assumed wife Annie E (born 11 Nov 07).  His son Harry (born 1921) and another was with him.

From the 1939 register it is safe to assume that the two children born to a HILTON and EVANS family, are another family. 1899 - 1899 Doris Hilton 1818 William Barnes In 1851, William and Ellen (both 33) were at Lever Place, Bolton with their 4 children 1818 Ellen 1842 John Barnes 1844 Jane Barnes 1850 Sarah Barnes 1903 Violet Evans in 1921, Violet Evans was living at 49 George Street when she married Alfred Hilton.  Her father was John Evans, a Checker.

Benjamin and Ann Ellen Booth (nee Tomlinson) had been married 15 years in 1911.  They had 2 children, Ethel (14), and Benjamin Jnr (8).  They had no other children.  Benjamin was sucessful as a Head Spinning Master (cotton works) and was able to have a servant girl Elizabeth Smethurst (17) doing housework.  They lived at 286A Crescent Road, Bolton.
