John was from Hurlestone, near Acton by Malpas.

1611 - 1664 William (William II) Lord Brereton 53 53 William (1611–1664), successor to his grandfather as 2nd baron.  He was the son of Sir John Brereton and Anne Fitton.

William Brereton, 2nd Baron Brereton was an English landowner and politician. He supported the Royalist cause during the English Civil War and sat in the House of Commons from 1661 to 1664.

When he died, William left his estate to his wife Elizabeth.
1615 - 1688 Rt Hon Elizabeth Goring 73 73 William Brereton married Lady Elizabeth Goring, daughter of George Goring, 1st Earl of Norwich and Mary Neville.

They had 10 children
~1649 - 1711 Honble Frances Brereton 62 62 Frances died a spinster ("of Nantwich Single Woman"). Her will "Frances Brereton of Nantwich" was written 1711 and probate was passed in 1712.

She left her estate to "my Dear Sister Eliz'h, Sister Anne Brereton, Sister Mary Brereton, Sister Elizabeth Brereton and Sister Jane Brereton to be equally divided amongst them ... and Appoint my Dear Sister Anne Brereton sole executor of this my last will and testament ..."
1650 - 1720 Honble Jane Brereton 69 69 Will indicated she died recently after Ann.  She leaves her estate to "Dear Sister Elizabeth" 1633 - 1718 Anne Brereton 85 85 After expenses paid, Anne lefte her goods/estate to "Dear Sister Jane Brereton woh I nominate and appoint my Sole Executor ..." 1630 - 1716 Marie (Mary) Brereton 86 86 In 1717 Marie left Anne her gold watch and gold ribbon purse, Elizabeth and Jane some other gold and silver.

Also mentioned is her Dear Sister ?Over? (cant read), but this is another otherise unknown sister.

William Brereton became an original Fellow of the Royal Society on 22 April 1663. He inherited the Irish peerage Baron Brereton on the death of his father in 1664. In 1668 he gave the rectory of Tilston, near Malpas to mathematician Thomas Branker.
~1641 - 1709 Margaret Brereton 68 68 Frances Willoughby 1659 - 1718 Sir John Lord Brereton 59 59 John Brereton (1659–1718) was an English baron in the Peerage of Ireland.

John lived at Brereton Hall in Cheshire. He inherited the Barony upon his father's death in 1679 and became a member of the House of Lords, but did not sit in James II's parliament of 7 May 1689.

John married Mary (1655–1715) the youngest daughter of Sir Thomas Tipping of Wheatfield Park in Oxfordshire, but they had no children and he was succeeded by his brother, Francis Brereton, 5th Baron Brereton.
1662 - 1722 Rt Hon Francis Lord Brereton 60 60 Described on the Codicil to borther Johns will as "Right Hon. Francis Lord Brereton" 1655 - 1715 Mary Tipping 60 60 Mary was the youngest daughter of Sir Thomas Tipping of Wheatfield Park in Oxfordshire. They had no children, so John was succeeded by his brother, Francis Brereton, 5th Baron Brereton. 1550 - 1631 Lord William Brereton 81 81 William Brereton, 1st Baron Brereton of Leighlin

William Brereton of Handforth was the son of Sir William Brereton, MP and Jane Warburton.

In 1624, William was created a peer in the Peerage of Ireland in as Baron Brereton.

There was a split in the Brereton family during the Civil War of 1642-1644. Once branch of the family were royalists of either Catholic or Anglican faith. Another younger branch living in Chester were Parliamentarians (or Roundheads, Puritans of Cromwellians) by inclination. This division led to the situation where Sir William Brereton of Malpas, Commander-in Chief of Crowell's Puritans invaded Brereton Hall, captured the family and held them for ransom. This conflict eventually led to the breakdown of the baronetcy.

Mary, on 18 July 1608 married Henry, Lord Inchiquin (died 1645), son of Dermod O'Brien, 5th Baron Inchiquin
1591 - 1629 Sir John Brereton 38 38 Died before his father. 1594 - 1663 Lady Anne Fyton 68 68 1630 Edward Brereton ~1620 Mary Brereton Mary, married Sir Michael Hutchinson (TBC) 1623 - 1648 Jane Brereton 25 25 Jane (died 1648) — the eventual heiress of the family — married, around 1646, Sir Robert Holte. Their son was Sir Charles Holte. 1649 - 1649 Richard Brereton Birth and death (burial) are same dates, so assumed to be an infant or stillborn child. Sir Edward Fyton D. 1643 Dame Anne Fyton 1602 Edward Fyton 1605 Ales Fyton 1604 Roger Fyton 1615 Jane Fyton 1623 - 1656 John Brereton 33 33 John of Malpas, refered to in the book "The Brereton Families of Bedford & Helmingham".

He was described as a "Mercer",  a dealer in cloth and textile fabrics, especially silks, velvets, and other fine materials.

The family appear to have moved (probably after John died) to Prestbury where wife Dorothy was buried in 1668 (an uncommon name for burials). Sons John and William also married at Prestbury (in 1682 and 1700).

Henry was the son of Donogh O'Brien, 4th Earl of Thomond and Elisabeth FitzGerald.

3 July 1608 Henry married Mary Brereton, daughter of William Brereton, 1st Baron Brereton and Margaret Savage.
1604 - 1661 Sir William Brereton 56 56 Sir William Brereton, 1st Baronet married twice: Susan Booth and Cecily Skeffington.

He was a parliamantory commander, major-general of Cheshire, Staffordshire and Lancashire; and created baronet 1627.

In 1628 and 1640 was MP for Cheshire, was was commander-in-chief of the Cheshire and neighbouring southern counties parlimentary forces.

Sir William died 7-April-1661 at Croydon Palace in Surrey aged about 57.
1592 - 1649 Cicely Skeffington 57 57 Cicely was the widow of Edward Mitton of Weston, Staffs, and daughter of Sir William Skeffington, 1st Baron of Fisherwick, Leics.

William and Cicely had a daughter, Cicely, who became the wife of Edward, 4th Earl of Meath.  Thare was another daughter.
1601 - 1637 Susanna Booth 36 36 Sir William Brereton married as his first wife Susanna, daughter of Sir George Booth of Dunham Massey, Baronet.  They had 1 son and three daughters.  Her parents were George and Katherine Booth. 1584 - 1587 Robert Brereton 3 3 1586 - 1586 William Brereton 1611 - 1681 Lady Margaret O'Brien 70 70 1615 - 1644 Lady Anne O'Brien 29 29 1623 Lady Honora O'Brien 1632 - 1674 Sir Thomas Brereton 42 42 Sir Thomas Brereton, 2nd Bt. was born in 1632

He died in 1673/4 without issue.

1575 Margaret Holland 1st s. of William Brereton of Handforth and Margaret, daughter of Richard Holland of Denton, Lancs. 1634 Katherine Brereton Katherine was named after her grandmother, Katherine Booth.

Katherine died unmarried. 
1640 - 1704 Cicely Brereton 64 64 Cicely married Edward, 4th Earl of Meath. ~1630 - 1634 John Brereton 4 4 Susanna Brereton Susanna, married Edmund Lenthall, son of Sir John Lenthall. ~1488 - 1536 Sir William Brereton 48 48 William was the son of Sir Randal Brereton IV of Malpas and Eleanor Dutton.

William Brereton (with several others) was accused of treason and adultery with Anne Boleyn, the King's second wife.  He was tried by Oliver Cromwell and lost his head but kept his lands.
D. 1545 Lady Elizabeth Savage (nee Somerset) In 1529, Sir William Brereton married Elizabeth Savage, the daughter of Charles Somerset, 1st Earl of Worcester, widow of Sir John Savage, and second cousin to Henry VIII.

Elizabeth's first husband was the grandson of Sir John Savage, who had been a Lancastrian commander at the battle of Bosworth in 1485.

William and Elizabeth had two sons, Thomas and Henry.

William was born in 1521, the son of Sir William Brereton and Anne Booth.

William married Jane Warburton, daughter of Sir Peter Warburton.  They lived at Brereton Hall, near Chester.

1548 - 1620 Jane Brereton 71 71 Jane Leigh (Brereton), of Brereton 1546 Ann Brereton Ann Smith, daughter of Sir William Brereton, MP and Jane Warburton.  Wife of Sir Thomas Smith.

<1536 - 1593 Margaret Brereton 57 57 Margaret Mostyn (Brereton) was the daughter of Sir William Brereton, MP and Jane Warburton.

Margaret Brereton married, firstly, William Goodman, Alderman of Chester.  He died before 1556.

Sometime after 4 October 1556, Margaret married Sir William Mostyn.  This was his second marriage, so Margaret must have been over 21 (i.e. born before 1535), so the eldest of the children. William was MP for Flintshire, ad lived at Mostyn. He died 9 Sep 1576
~1473 - 1541 Sir William Brereton III 68 68 Rt. Hon. Sir William Brereton Alice Savage Alice Savage was the daughter of Sir John Savage.

Alice married The Right Hon. Sir William Brereton, son of Andrew Brereton and Agnes Leigh.
Andrew Brereton Agnes Leigh D. 1570 Eleanor Brereton Randle Brereton Randle Brereton was the son of Rt. Hon. Sir William Brereton and Eleanor Brereton. He died, unmarried. D. 1558 Richard Brereton Richard Brereton was the son of Rt. Hon. Sir William Brereton and Eleanor Brereton.

Richard married Thomasine Ashley, the daughter of George Ashley.

They lived at Lea Hall, Middlewich, Cheshire.
Henry Brereton Henry Brereton is the son of Rt. Hon. Sir William Brereton and Eleanor Brereton.

He married (wife unknown) and had two children, John and Randle.

Henry was a Captain in Ireland.
