In 1881, Isaac is an inmate at Bolton Union Workhouse, Fishpool Farnworth, the year of his death.

There is another Issac Mather from England recorded in 1880 US census, living at Warick, Kent, Rhode Island, Working at Print Works, Aged 69 (b.1811).

1852 - 1931 William Mather 78 78 Born: Little Bolton, Lancashire.

Living in Little Bolton in 1861.

In 1871, Samuel (29, Head) and William (19) were spinners iving at 51 Halliwell Road (with Martha Murry, aged 60, a housekeeper).

In 1901, William and Mary (49 & 50) were at 1 Messiah Street, Little Bolton with Rebecca (23), Mary J (22), James G (20), and Wilfredo (15).

In 1911, William and Mary (59 & 60) were at 250 Waterloo Street, Bolton with Rebecca (33), Mary Jane (32) and Wilfred (25).

1837 - 1894 Eliza Mather 56 56 Eliza Mather was born and lived her whole life in the Waterloo area of Little Bolton, Lancashire.

Recorded as only child of Isaac and Mary on 1841 census return, living with parents at Kay Street, Little Bolton.  Note she is "Eliza" (i.e. NOT Elizabeth, the daughter of Isaac Mather, a farmer from Entwistle who married James Ducrworth 2-Sep-1860)

Living at 1 Simpson Street, Little Bolton, Lancashire in 1851.

In 1861, Eliza had already left home, but not with James Pendlebury (who was still married then). She married him in 1863.  In 1861 she was aged 22, boarding with John and Ellen Bell in Egerton, Turton.

John and Israel were still with their mother, Eliza in 1891.  In 1891, borther Samuel Mather (a cotton mill operative) was visiting.
1843 - 1926 Samuel Mather 82 82 When Mary and Isaac had the twins, they were named after Isaac's parents, Alice and Samuel.

In 1851, Samuel (7) was living at 1 Simpson Street, Little Bolton, Lancashire with parents and sisters Eliza (13) and Jane (4).

In 1861, Samule (17) was living at 2 Nuttall Square (off Blackburn Rd), Little Bolton (Halliwell) with parents Isaac and Mary (51 & 49) and siblings Jane (15) and Wiliam (9).

In 1871, Samuel (29, Head) and William (19) were spinners iving at 51 Halliwell Road (with Martha Murry, aged 60, a housekeeper).

Visiting Pennington family at Westhoughton in 1881 and still in Westhoughton in 1891, near brother and family.  It appears that his newly married wife, Selina Jane died in Q2-1881, so she may have been critically ill (or in childbirth) at the time of the census, which is probably why he was with his sister.

In 1881, after Martha's second husband James France had died, Samuel Mather (38, mar) was lodging with Martha Pennington.  He is probably the father of Mary Ellen Pennington (as her death record records her father as Samuel Pennington). Mary Ellen recorded her MMN as Pennington on the first three UK births of her children, but Mather for Cecil, also hinting as Samuel being her father.

Samuel was recorded as Married in 1881, but single again in 1891, so did he marry?  Well YES, as in 1901 he's recorded as a widower, so 1891 is probably an error.

In 1883, Samuel Mather Patterson married Catherine Sharp at Bolton Holy Trinity. This is another person, the widowed son of John Patterson.

In 1891 Isaac’s daughter Eliza Pendlebury (52, Wid) had moved into 4 Simpson Street. With her were two sons John and Israel (24 & 21) and her brother Samuel Mather (47, Single) was visiting.

Was living alone in 1901 at 19 Simpson St, still a cotton spinner.

Father was missing in 1871, and "Jane Mather" was living with Ellen Crompton and her two children (possibly unmarried).

In 1868, William Mather married Jane Lever.  The birth records for Ellen, Mather and Margaret confirm the MMN is Lever.

In 1871, William (28, Mar, Coach Trimmer) was lodging in Halifax. His family were not with him.

In 1881, William (38, born Warrington) and Jane (35) had John J (11), Ellen (10), Martha (6) and Margaret J (5mon), living at 6 School Hill, Little Bolton.  William's mother-in-law who lived with them was Ellen Crompton (head, 57).
1867 - 1917 John James Mather 50 50 In 1901, another John J Mather was at 17 Blackbank Street, Little Bolton with 2 children and his mother-in-law Alice Scott, and the same John J Mather (born 21 Jan 66) was still there in 1939 with Mary Schofield (born 18 Nov 81 and Single). 1871 Ellen Mather Ellen and Harry didnt have children (none by 1911).

In 1911, Harry Lee, a publican at the Red Bridge Inn, Ainsworth, and Ellen (40 & 39) were living in Ainsworth with a servant Robert Mellor (aged 23)
1874 Martha Mather In 1901, Martha (26) and Maggie J Mather (20) were living in Bolton with their mother Jane.

1901 to 1910 there are 9 Lancashire marriages for Martha Mather, 3 on Bolton, but only one a church wedding.

In 1902, Martha Mather married William R Bleackley at St Saviours Church, Bolton.

1880 - 1956 Margaret Jane Mather 75 75 In 1901, Martha (26) and Maggie J Mather (20) were living in Bolton with their mother Jane.

In 1939, Margaret J Mather is still single, born 2 Oct 1880
1846 Jane Lever In 1871, Jane (25, married) was with her mother at 8 School Lane, Little Bolton.  With her were John J (1) and Ellen (8wks) and servant Margaret Green (20)

In 1881, Jane (35) had John J (11), Ellen (10), Martha (6) and Margaret J (5mon), living at 6 School Hill, Little Bolton.  Her mother (head) was Ellen Crompton (57).

By 1891, Jane was a widow, a grocer at 119 & 121 Leicester Street, Little Bolton with John J (20), Ellen (16), Matha (16), Margaret J (10) and her mother Ellen Crompton (67), a retired Beer Seller.

In 1901, Jane Mather (55, Wid) was with daughters Martha (26) and Maggie J Mather (20) living in Bolton.
<male> Lever 1824 - ~1892 Ellen Crompton 68 68 In 1871, Ellen (47), Widow was a beer seller at 6 School Hill, Little Bolton.  She had a married daughter Jane Mather (26) and two grand children John J (1) and Ellen (8 weeks).

In 1891, Ellen Crompton was a retired beer seller, still with her daughter Jane Mather and family.
1814 - 1893 Isaac Mather 78 78 Isaac was born in Turton (not Entwistle)

Isaac was a farm servant, son of James Mather, a farmer from Entwistle.  He was the son of James (recorded on marriage), and was a weaver, 26 in 1841 living near his father at Edge Fold.

In 1841, Isaac and Betty (26 & 22) were at Edge Fold, Edgworth and had Betty (aged 1).

1851 Isaac (37) is a farmer of 16 acres at Wittaker's,  Entwistle with wife Betty (32), daughter Elizabeth (11), and James (9), Sophia (5), Simon (2) and Luke (1mo).

1871 Isherwood fold - Isaac (b.Turton, 56, farmer of 9 acres), Elizabeth (50, b.Darwen) with Luke (20), William (17), Ruth (16) etc

1881 Isaac, 67, still farming at Isherwood fold farm, Edgworth but now with wife Isabella (66).
1842 - 1842 John Mather 6m 6m 1843 - 1845 Alice Mather 1 1 When Mary and Isaac had the twins, they were named after his parents, Alice and Samuel.  Unfortunately, Alice didnt survive. 1840 - 1840 Thomas Mather 5m 5m Mother's maiden name is recorded as Hayhurst, but I suspect this should be Fairhurst, son of Isaac and Mary. ~1773 - >1833 Henry Fairhurst 60 60 From son Thomas's baprism, we know Henry Fairhurst was a Collier from LB.  Ellen also married a Coal Miner (Robert Norris) 1773 - 1833 Elizabeth (Betty) Fletcher 60 60 1813 - 1814 Thomas Fairhurst 1 1 Thomas (a sailor) may have married Margaret and moved to Ashton in 1841, with mother Betty (aged 60) 1809 Ellen Fairhurst 1807 - 1819 James Fairhurst 12 12 1804 Hannah Fairhurst 1803 John Fairhurst 1852 - 1880 Selina Jane Cooper 28 28 Selina Cooper, dau of Mary and Frederick, baptised in Manchester.

In 1871, Selina Cooper, 18, sister-in-law, was a piecer at the cotton mill, Manchester New Cross.  Her sister was Sarah Cooper married to John Hunt (both 23).  This may be the same person!  There isnt a Manchester birth record.

Selina Jane Mather died in Ormskirk in 1880, aged 28, so this is probably where she came from (or where her family were in 1880).
1836 - 1837 William Mather 10m 10m 1760 - 1842 Isaac Mather 82 82 Isaac, a Weaver married Alice Fielding (spinster) on 4 Jan 1787.  The Solomon born 1798 is probably their son (as know to be born at Toppings).

After they married in 1787, Isaac and Alice lived at Toppings, Turton, which is recorded on the baptism records for Ann (1790) and Esther (1792).

Isaac (weaver) was alive in 1841 at Know Mills, Edgworth, with his daughter Alice Settle (b.1801).  He died the following year.  Neighbours at Higher Know Mills were farmer Joseph & Elizabeth Mather (40 & 35) and family (his son).

Isaac may have had other children after Alice (baptism records are known to be lost).  However, it is likely Alice was the youngest daughter as he was living with her before he died in 1842.
1812 - 1898 Isaac Mather 86 86 Sarah was not with Isaac in 1851, but was recorded as married (not Widow), so Isaac was probably still alive then (possibly in the USA).

In 1839, Isaac, son of Solomon, a mechanic from Edgworth
was a widower when he married Sarah Smith.  He was NOT in Montgomery, PA - That is another.

About 1840, Isaac and Sarah (nee Smith) moved to the USA.

In 1851, Isaac and Sarah (both 37) are at Southbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts, USA with William H (8), Elisabeth (6), James A (4), and Susannah (2).

In 1870, Isaac and Sarah (60 & 54) are at Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island.

In 1880, Isaac and Sarah (69 & 63) were at Warrick, Kent, Rhode Island.  This Sarah was his third wife, married in Bolton in 1839.

Isaac from Edgworth has been reported by some as born 27 Oct 1799 (this is an error), died 1898 (aged 99) who married three times, the last marriage being Sarah Langford (also wrong), before they emigrated to the USA.  This Isaac was already in the US by 1850, and was actually born 1812, which explains why he was so fit at 99. Sarah Langford actually married Morgan Pender in Q3/1838, while another Isaac Mathers married Esther Kershaw, both at Manchester.
1790 - <1837 Isaac Mather 47 47 "Isaac" (although indexed as Frane) is very difficult to read on record, but Isaac is probably correct.  He was baptised at the same time (same day) as Alice, daughter of James Holt and Sarah Howarth, both from Goose Colt Hill, Turton.

Isaac may have married Sarah Jackson (3-Jan-1816). However that Isaac was 52 in 1851, a farmer of 28 acres born Turton with his son Joseph.
1842 - 1879 John Gillibrand 37 37 Mother Elizabeth (father not recorded) on baptism record.  His mother was Elizabeth Martindale (with son Isaac in 1901), so she must have remarried.

Spinner when Robert Baptised in 1875.  Minder (perhaps winder) on Eliza Ann's marriage certificate.
1844 - 1896 John Finch 52 52 John's parents were Christopher (recorded on marriage certificate) and probably Mary Finch from Chorley.  ALso on his marriage certificate he recorded himself as a slater.  Slater also appears on the Liverpool probate record.

The probate record suggests he is from Liverpool, so he may have been married to Elizabeth, and had a daughter Margaret (and Sarah, Laura, John and Thomas in 1891), but there is no record of this wifs death (1891-1893), and This John was a plasterer in 1891.
1872 - 1935 Mary Elizabeth Gillibrand 62 62 Mary E Gillibrand (35) married an older William C Langley (49) in 1907 in California.  They later lived in King, Washington near Mary's other siblings.  Although getting on in age, they had three children(1907-1912).  William died at King, Washington in 1923. 1875 - 1955 Robert Gillibrand 79 79 In 1919, Robert and Mary Gilllibrand (44 & 41) from Sheffield, a friend of R Burton, travelled on the Bohemian via Boston to Auburn, Washinjgton, USA. 1876 - 1957 Isaac Gillibrand 80 80 Isaac was with his grandmother Elizabeth Martindale (b. 1823, Chorley) in 1901 1879 - 1958 Eliza Ann Gillibrand 79 79 1883 - 1951 Richard Burton 68 68 1821 George Mather 1772 Ann Johnson 1817 Martha Mather Elizabeth Mullineux 1878 - 1970 Mary Hardwick Whittlestone 92 92 1908 - 1989 Myra Gillibrand 81 81 Departing Liverpool, Robert (44) and Mary (41) Gilllibrand (from Sheffield), a friend of R Burton, and Myra (10) travelled on the Bohemian via Boston to Auburn, Washinjgton, USA.

Myra married William Roy Johnson at Auburn, King, Washington on 20 June 1931.
1858 - 1923 William C Langley 65 65 William had probably been married before he married Mary E Gillibrand. ~1771 John Mather John was a Widower when he married Elizabeth Mollineux, both of St. Peters Parish, Bolton in Dec 1801.  Ann is probably Ann the wife of John Mather of Atherton who was buried 12 June 1801 at Deane.  Other spouses of John Mather that died are Ann of Preston who died Dec 1800, Betty of Eccles in May 1798 and Nancy of Winwick in 1794.

There are no previous marriages of a John Mather and Ann (or Anne) of Deane in the past 20 years, the nearest being Ann Eckersley, married 1775.  Boton marriages are also limited.  There is however an Ann Johnson married at Manchester in 1792 but she was still having children in 1805.

John and Ann Eckersley are of Astley.  After John and Elizabeth were married, then had a Martha baptised at Atherton (but 16 years later).
1795 Harriot Mather 1805 Martha Mather 1805 Mary Mather ~1772 John Mather John was a Farmer of Manchester. ~1771 - 1801 Ann Cundley 30 30 1895 Herbert Longworth In 1939, Ethel A and Herbert Longworth were at 11 Southgrove Avenue, Bolton.  Herbert was a shop assistant at the grocers.  They appear to have had a child with them. 1863 Clara Scott In 1901, Clara and John J Mather was at 17 Blackbank Street, Little Bolton with 2 children and Clara's mother Alice Scott. 1897 - 1983 Ethel Alice Mather 85 85 In 1939, Ethel A and Herbert Longworth were at 11 Southgrove Avenue, Bolton.  They had one other (child) with them.

In 1922, Ethel married Herbert Longworth at Seymour Road Wesleyan Chapel, Astley Bridge.  She is one of several Mathers to marry there, but this Ethel is not closely related to the others.
1899 George Edward Mather 1902 Harry Mather 1846 - 1915 John Edward Mather 68 68 In 1881, John E (33) living at 101 Reservoir St with wife Grace (37), John J, William, Hannah and Jane (13, 11, 7, and 5) 1844 Grace Durham 1870 William Mather 1873 Hannah Mather 1875 Jane Mather 1880 Charles Mather When Charles was born, he was a twin with Betsy.  However, Betsy died in 1883, aged an indant (aged 1 or 2). 1886 Sarah Ellen Mather 1889 Ada Mather 1884 - 1885 Mary Ann Mather 6m 6m 1879 - 1880 Margaret Mather 1 1 1820 Hannah Simm Hannah was the daughter of John Simm, a finisher 1862 Hannah Mather 1866 - >1939 John James Mather 73 73 John was the son of Charles Mather and Betty Crompton

In 1901, John J Mather was at 17 Blackbank Street, Little Bolton with 2 children and his mother-in-law Alice Scott, and the same John J Mather (born 21 Jan 66) was still there in 1939 with Mary Schofield (born 18 Nov 81 and Single).
1816 - 1890 Isaac Mather 74 74 Isaac was probably the son of Thomas and Ann (but probably NOT Ann Holt, married 1810), a Weaver from Bury (perhaps Whitefield where brother Francis and sister Mary were born in 1820 and 1822).

Isaac Mather and Mary Taylor of Unsworth married at Prestwich, Bury in 1836.  WARNING: There are two other Mather & Taylor families in Bury (shown here).

In 1841, Isaac and Mary (both 20), Cotton Weaver were at Nuttall, Holcombe, Bury with no children.

The 1851 census shows Mary and Isaac (both 35) with daughters Ann (15) and Nancy) at Bury.  Mary was born at Darwen.
