  When Ken and Nellie were living down Clayton Bridge during the War and after a visit by Winnie Mather, Nell's sister, Ken was walking back her to the bus stop when he heard the sound of a plane. He was quick to realise it was German, on its way back from a bombing mission, and pushed Winnie and himself into the ditch, just in time before the plane started firing on them. Ken saved both their lives !
  
  Nellie and Ken Turner went to Belgium on a School Trip 15th April 1973. Sue has their postcard in her Mother's Archives.
