Although Mary calls herself a widow, Sarah's baptish in 1843 records Mary as a spinster (so maybe a widower). She may have been "Taylor" before marrying a Mather.
Mary was born 2 Jan 1807 at Newton-le-Willows, the daughter of Henry and Sarah and baptised at Newton Chapel.
18 Jul 1836, Mary Taylor married Thomas Mather at Winwick. Thomason Mather died three years later in 1839, aged 24 (ASHT/1/248).
In Q1 1839, Son Jacob Mather was born (MMN = TAYLOR) and the birth registered at Newton-le-Willows.
In 1841, Jacob Taylor (2) was at Chapel Brow, Newton with Elizabeth Taylor (70) and Margaret Taylor (15). Mary Mather (35) was a Female Servant at Newton, Winwick.
Note: There were two other Mary Taylors of same age living in Ashton in Makerfield in 1841, one being Irish and her and in 1860 her son Jacob did marry Mary Ann Finnergan, an Irish girl.
In 1851, Mary Mather (43, Wid), born Newton-le-Willows was at Ashton in Makerfield with son Jacob (12), Sarah (8) and Elizabeth (3).
In 1861, Mary (59) was a charwoman at Dobbs Court, Ashton in Makerfield with daughter Sarah (18) and unmarried daughter Margaret Taylor (39). Also William Boon (40, a boarder)
In 1871, Mary Mather (67) was atill at Dobbs Court with William Broom (46, a boarder)
In 1875 Mary Mather died. Her death was registered at Ashton, recorded aged 75 (actually 68).
