- On 15th June 1765 a petition was issued against Thomas Mather, following Poor Law, and his wife Elizabeth and their daughter Mary, aged 8 months to be returned from Longworth to Turton.

Thomas was born about 1743 in Turton. He died in May 1796 in Bolton. His burial was on May 15th, 1796 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹

General Notes
- Thomas may be the brother of James Mather who married Martha Entwistle. They had the same witnesses; Thomas Vickars & registrar James Livesey.
  
  In 1765 Thomas fell into hard times. On 15th June 1765, following Poor Law, an order (petition) was made returning Thomas, his wife Elizabeth and their daughter Mary, aged 8 months from Longworth to Turton.
  
  Thomas was a Widower when he married Hannah Platt on 1 Jan 1781. Marg't, wife of Thomas Mather of G.B. was buried 21 Feb 1779.

- From 1763 Thomas' occupation was Weaver in Bolton. He died in 1796 while still employed there.

      Luke recorded his father as a weaver on in 1849 marriage (by then he had died)
