Thank you for your interest in my family tree (Mar 2024 version) with about 30 years of work.  Our family history goes back to the North of England around the time of the English Civil War, and since then we have spread to America, Canada, Australia, and elsewhere, but mainly remained in the North of England. I havent quite got back as far as Adam & Eve yet!

As well as my own family tree, this tree has also become a MATHER one-name study (ONS) of all the Mather families from in and around Bolton and Bury, Lancashire for the period 1750 to 1900.  Almost all Mather families from Bolton who were born or married here are included.  Most information is backed up with references to the source and marriage certificated where freely available.

The MATHER family worked as cotton weavers in Bolton, Lancashire in the 1700’s and 1800’s.  My grandparents had moved to Birkenhead by the 1900’s.  I’m now using DNA to find another living Mather to whom I’m related!  As well as my family I have researched many of the Mather’s from Bolton and this is becoming a one-name MATHER study with many Mather families.  Where I have discovered DNA links, I have coloured the lines green and grown the tree to show where the DNA connection is.  This has resulted in an even bigger tree!

The TOMLINSON’s originate from Warrington and moved to the cotton mills to Bolton in the 1800‘s.  The STOCKS family are from Berry Brow and Huddersfield, parish of Almondbury.  They were woollen weavers, who turned their hand to Stone Masons as the Yorkshire woollen industry declined.  On my mother’s side, the BRERETON’s were publicans and before that farmers in Cheshire.  The DITTMER’s originated from Diersbuttel, Hanover, but before that DNA suggests possibly Scandinavia.

If you are related, I would like to hear from you, and if you don't object, I'll add any additional relevant information you can provide.  If you have DNA links to someone in my tree I would also like to know as it helps to validate the tree and turn the connections Green (to indicate DNA).  With such a large tree there will inevitably be errors.  If you discover a mistake please let me know so I can correct it.  Thanks for your interest.
