John was a Catholic, and in 1858 converted to (Baptist) Mormon Church.
John and Elizabeth were married in a religious ceremony on October 26th, 1861 in Salt Lake County/City.1 They had four sons and three daughters, named John, Ben, Edward, Albert, Elizabeth, Kate and Pheobe. There are no more children.
