General Notes
There is a Peter Hilton baptised at Wigan, his father Peter was an Innkeeper at Upholland, Lancashire. Later his father may have been a Wheelwright. In 1851, this Peter Hilton, lodger, Widower, aged 41 was a Sawyer (i.e. a timber cutter) at Upholland. In 1871, Peter is a Carpenter in Pemberton. This cant be the Peter that emmigrated to the USA.
Peter Hilton married Elizabeth Mather 6 Nov 1831 in Bolton. It was just in time, as Elizabeth (aka Betty) gave birth 2 months later. Their marriage may have been a double marriage as Sarah Mather married at the same church, same day. The marriage records are adjacent. However, they are not sisters.
In Jan 1832 when Catherine was baptised, Peter was a Chair Maker in Little Bolton
