From the marriage record, William's father was Charles Gregory.
1 Oct 1868, William was 30 and of no occupation when he married Jane Hopley, aged 21 at Birkenhead.
In 1869, after they married, the family moved to Whitchurch where sons William Hopley Gregory and Charles were born.
About 1876 the family moved to Nantwich where their two daughters were born in 1878 and 1881.
In 1881, some disaster hit the family. William went to live with his uncle, and Jane and the three younger children went to the workhouse. Son Charles was born in Whitchurch, so he was sent to the Whitchurch Workhouse. The girls were born in Nantwich so went to the Nantwich Workhouse with their mother Jane.
