John was probably a little older than his wife Jane. He was of full age when he married in 1863, so born before 1842. As he was already a manager, we was probably several years older, so born about 1835 (just an educated guess)

In 1881, John and Jane (44 & 43) were at 14 Hulme St, Regent Road, Salford with Ernest (15), Edith (13) and Mary E Hurst (18, servant)
