Arthur's father was Thomas Arthur Brereton and his mother was Mabel Ann Broomfield. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Brereton and Ellen Bebbington. He had two sisters named Gladys and Laura. He was the youngest of the three children. He had a half-sister named Florence. He died at the age of 65 on August 3rd, 1976 in Oregon (OR).²
