By 1871 he had a son, but wife was no longer with her, so presumed dead between 1866 and 1871.
A search for deaths of Sarah or Alice Tomlinson in Bolton reveals only one possibility (in June 1868):

Richard was also buried the same year, so possibly Sarah died during or after childbirth.
General Notes
28 Jan 1866, Richard Tomlinson, Iron Moulder of Shaw Street, married Sarah Bradley of Derby Street, daughter of Pater Bradley, a Joiner. They had a child Peter Bradley Tomlinson the following year.
In 1868, Sarah, aged 21 died.
