  • THE STORY OF THE RAHMAN FAMILY IS TRANSLATED AND EDITED FROM THE NOTES OF NINA RAHMAN:  HER MEMORIES, CORRESPONDENCE AND THE RETOLD MEMORIES OF HER FATHER MOISEI. 
    
    "Rahman" is the Hebrew word which means "merciful".
    
    Avrum Bir Rahman was my great great great grandfather, the first  predecessor known to me on my maternal grandmother's side.
    
    Avrum Bir Rahman lived in Ushomyr, a village in the Zhytomyr oblast, Ukraine. The village is situated near the town of Korosten', on the bank of the river Uzh.
    
    The Rahman family had lived in Ushomyr for several generations.  The main business was the processing and trade of cattle skins.
    
    Avrum and Hannah Rahman had one son, Gershn.  A daughter had died in infancy. 

Gerschn (Grigoriy) Avrum(ovich) Rahman
Grigoriy was born in year 1850.  He died, at the age of 91st years, in year 1941.
