Zahava was born on March 31st, 1945 in Rishon Le Tzion, Israel.  Zahava's father is Moshe Cohen and her mother was Miriam Castoriano (Cohen).  Her paternal grandparents were Elyahu Cohen and Dorah Cohen; her maternal grandparents were Yehuda Castoriano and Cochava Castoriano.  She is the oldest of three children.  She has two sisters named Cochava and Ziva.
