I do know how the Goffe's came to be in America! My mother's father's name, William (Floyd) Goffe has come down from the one you see on the website below and has continued to the present generation with my cousin (a twin). Unfortunately, he has no sons so this will be end of the name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Goffe

"Interesting story as told by Bob Goffe:
My twin cousins, Bob and Bill Goffe, are attorneys living in Wash. D.C. While walking through Georgetown one day, Bob met a man who lives in Georgetown and has a reputation as a veritable genius and a human compendium of facts - he has been the subject of a Wall st. Journal front page article and is widely credited with providing material to authors as diverse as George Will, Herman Wouk, and Tom Wolfe. He is unmistakable because he always wears a bowler hat, a morning coat and carries a cane. Upon introduction and without any prodding, he immediately recognized the Goffe name, and recounted the life of Judge William Goffe, the regicide of Charles I during the Oliver Cromwell reign - his flight to America upon the issuing of his death warrant after the ascension of Charles II to the throne: and his subsequent enshrinement in American folklore as the progenitor of Goffe's cave and the Three Judges hotel, motel, restaurant, etc. in New Haven, Conn. (End).
I also read somewhere that there are 3 streets in Conn., each named for one of the judges - one being "Goffe Street.""
