Maude was born in 1927.  Maude's father was Leslie Van Winkle and her mother was Lucy N. Azbill.  Her paternal grandparents were Cashus Van Winkle and Cordelia T. Azbill; her maternal grandparents were William Sherman Azbill and H. Elizabeth Bicknell.  She is the youngest of seven children.  She has three brothers and three sisters, named Leslie, Elgin, Lyman, Glyndon, Zena D. and Mable.
