Polly was born in 1845.  Polly's father was John Rose and her mother was Samaria Bicknell.  Her maternal grandparents were Linsfield Bicknell and Mary Paulina Asbell.  She was the fourth of twelve children.  She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Lorenzo, Calvin, Albin, Hiram, Elzyra, Lucinda, Permilia, Marriana, Amanda, Serilda and Tyra.
