Martin was born in 1685.  Martin's father was Richard Asbell and his mother was Mary Martin.  His paternal grandparents were George Asball Sr. and Anne Markes; his maternal grandparents were Jonathan Martin and ?.  He was the second of four children.  He had three sisters named Mary, Ann and Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 57 in 1742.
