Pierce was born in 1835.  Pierce's father was Tyre Asbell and his mother was Sarah Asbell.  His paternal grandparents were John Asbell and Mary Elizabeth Coyle; his maternal grandparents were William Asbell Sr. and Elizabeth Moore.  He was the oldest of four children.  He had a brother and two sisters, named Frank, Elizabeth and Mary Jane.  He died at the age of 67 in 1902.
