Roy was born in 1898.  Roy's father was William A Abney and his mother was Sarah Margaret Bicknell.  His maternal grandparents were Sylvester W. Bicknell and Nancy Rose Bicknell.  He was the fourth of five children.  He had four brothers named Dennis Ira, Gillis, Zephra and William Lawrence.
