James was born on April 8th, 1906 in Hyde Park, Unley, SA.1 James' father was Horace Henry SKEWES and his mother was Elizabeth Sarah Anthony MARTIN. His paternal grandparents were James Michael SKEWES and Helen Maria BRADY; his maternal grandparents were James MARTIN and Elizabeth ANTHONY. He had two brothers and a sister, named Henry, Horace and Helen. He was the second oldest of the four children.-
