A Memory from Rodney Locks about this photo: "My father was not engaged in full time military service as he was involved in running an essential business, newspaper publishing. He was however, enlisted in The Royal Air Force, as a Flight Lieutenant, and attended at Northweald Aerodrome, some 8.7 miles away, where he taught the cadets both maths, and boxing.
Dad looked so smart Dad in his blue RAF uniform, and peaked officer’s cap, and sitting in the sidecar of a motorbike he borrowed from one of his brothers, he took me to Northweald when attending to one of his duties.
After the war, he was presented with an ashtray, as a thank you for his contribution towards the services, and this was made out of the stone from the old Houses of Parliament."
