    Civil War deserter.
    
         Grew up in the town of Clarence\ Newstead, Erie Country, New York.
    
    
         Did attend school as he was able to read and write and was very Literate and wrote interesting letters. Also, he was Knowledgable when it came to finances.
    
    
         He and His older brother Lewis, went to upper Michigan sometime before 1887 to work in the logging campus.
    
    
         Emile with his older brother Lewis and John Hallman came to the territory of Washington in 1887. The men of the families came out west first and the women and children followed in 1888 after the birth of Dora Scheib. They first came to Bainbridge Island , Kitsap Country, Territory of Washington, which was the great center for logging and Lumber at that time. They worked in the logging camps and lumber mills. Their second child, Fredrick John was born 15 December 1889 on Bainbridge Island.
    
    
         On July 19, 1889, Emile took out a patent for a homestead of 160 acres at Pearson, Kitsap Country, Washington territory. The area today is incorporated into the Bangor Tridant Submarine Base, Bangor, Washington. Emile built a house, barns for his oxen, planted fruit trees and dug well. He was also logging on his own as well as working in other logging camps. The third child, Calla Ethel was born Dec 19 1891. When the time came for him to "prove up his claim" for the homestead title, it was discovered that the property belonged to some other person. He lost all of his property and all his hardwork was for nothing. It was about this time that the family moved to Mount Vernon, Skagit Country, Washington.  The Hallman family followed. The men worked in the logging camps and lumber mills. Here the 4 and 5th children were born: Walter Lewis and November 4, 1893, and Lawrence Holbrook born October 25, 1895.
    
    
         Times were difficult for the family at this time.
    
    BREMERTON SUN MONDAY, APRIL 13, 1945 - EMIL SCHEIB - "Emil Scheib, 88-year-old retired rancher, died last Saturday at his home at Soap Lake. A resident of Washington for 65 years, he lived at Soap Lake for the past 25 years, but previous to that time resided at Pearson.  He is survived by six sons, Fred J. of Mukilteo, Walter L. of Port Orchard, Elmer D. and Lawrence H. of Soap Lake, and Joseph E. and Wilbur R. of Seattle; three daughters, Mrs. Calla Schmuck of Pearson, Mrs. Ruth Finney of Petaluma, Calif., and Mrs. Lawrence Hink of Coulee Dam; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Winert of Seattle, 30 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Pearson church, with interment at Mountain View cemetery under the direction of Lewis."
