Casper Sain

    From the book "HERITAGE OF ROWAN County,North Carolina" the Sains of Davie County (old Row an County) (page 551)
    
    German immigrant (from SW Germany) Casper Zirn arrive in Philadelphia on September 26, 1749.  He travelled aboard the ship,
    The Dragon, from Rotterdam, Holland.  His name was spelled three different ways on the three lists required at time of arrival in America. "A" list was Gasper Zurn, "B " list was Casper Hirn, and "C" list was Casper Zirn.
    
    Many years later when signing deeds of transfer, Casper would sign his name in German script as "Casper Zirn", and the clerk in writing the deeds spelled Zirn as Sain. (Zurn in German is pronounced like Sain in English I am told)  Casper Zirn was in Lancaster, Pennsylvania for a while (I have been to the Muddy Creek Lutheran Church, 25 miles north of Lancaster, PA where there was a baptism for Zirn s)
    
    Casper Zirn brought his family to North Carolina during the 1770's and settled in on ( his farm was 1122 acres) the east side of Dutchman's Creek in an area known as the Heidelberg settlement (I have been there and a Sain still owns a farm there on Sain road)(Rosanna had two brothers who had studied at Heidelberg University)
    
    A log church was erected which was called Heidelberg Evangelical Lutheran Church (it is on a hilltop, I have been there.)  A church record book provides a record of births & baptisms.  Many German settlers were buried in an adjoining cemetery.  Casper (Zirn) and Rosanna Mock had seven children; John Sain born 1735, George Sain born 1764, Joseph Sain born 1769, Esther Sain born 1771, Frederick Sain born 1775 Daniel Sain born 1780 and Marey Sain born 1782.
    
    I have been told that all Sains are descendants of Casper and Rosanna.
