Penelope's father was Charles Crichton (Lord Crichton) and her mother was Sarah Dalrymple.  Her maternal grandparents were Sir James Dalrymple (1st Viscount Stair) and Margaret (Witch of Endor) Ross.  She was an only child.  She died about March 6th, 1741.
