    • In 1920 he started farming on "Goedehoop", Eendekuil. This farm had been bought by his father-in-law, Andries Liebenberg. He rented the farm, but the understanding was there that he and his wife, Gertruida would one day inherit the farm. However in 1938 the farm was left to Hendrik Liebenberg, Gertruida's brother. He then leased the farm for 1 year from his brother-in-law.
      In 1940 he leased "Spaarkloof" at the foot of the Piekenierskloof from his cousin, Jonnie, for 5 years. Later he bought this farm and farmed here till his death.
