Sloan was born on November 1st, 1896 in Kilrea, Northern Ireland. Sloan's father was Dr. Samuel John Bolton and his mother is Bella. His paternal grandparents were Sloan Bolton and Mary Anne McIlwrath. He had a brother named Samuel. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 83 on January 12th, 1980.-
