    WELSH — Bruce Meche, 77, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, in a local hospital.
    He was a lifelong resident of Welsh and retired as a rice and soybean farmer and horse rancher. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council, American Quarter Horse Association and Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association. He served on the boards of Welsh Gravity Drainage, American Rice Growers Association and Jeff Davis Mosquito Control.
    Survivors include his loving and caring spouse, Eula M. "Bell" Meche; one daughter, Sylvia Meche; two sons, William Meche, and Leland Meche and his friend, Michelle Begnaud; daughter-in-law, Debra Meche, all of Welsh; four sisters, Euphemae Benoit and Nettie Courville, both of Welsh, and Lee Anna McGee and June Key, both of Lake Charles; three brothers, Allen Meche, John P. Meche and Robert Meche, all of Welsh; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and two step-great-granddaughters.
    He was preceded in death by a son, Vernon K. Meche.
    His funeral will be at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 16, in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. The Rev. Albert Borel will officiate. Burial will be in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh. Visitation is from 8 a.m.
