        SULPHUR — The funeral for Melvin L. Broussard, 88, of Sulphur, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in First Baptist Church of Sulphur.
        Dr. David Holder will officiate. Burial will be in Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is 4-9 p.m. today in the funeral home and from 9 a.m. Thursday in the church.
        Mr. Broussard was born on May 20, 1919, in Choupique, La. He was a graduate of Sulphur High School and attended Louisiana College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a mechanic in the Army Air Corps in the “Jolly Rogers” heavy bombardment unit in Australia and New Guinea.
        He was employed at PPG Industries in Lake Charles and retired after 32 years of service. He was a member First Baptist Church of Sulphur; he served as a deacon and participated in the Agin’ Cajuns choir.
        He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Theodosia Ellender Broussard; his sisters Lorraine Hoelzer and Denease Broussard; and his brother, Ozy Broussard.
        He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lewana Wagner Broussard; two sons, Randy Broussard and wife Janie of Sulphur, and Ronnie Broussard and wife Beth of St. Francisville; his sister, Yvonne Biven of Lake Charles; five grandchildren, Katy Castille, Randy Broussard, Lauren Harrell, Beau Broussard and Katherine Slocum; and six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Anna Claire, Sam and Sarah Castille and Beau and Madelyn Broussard.
