The family is nearly related to to Sir Rowland Cotton, one of the grantees of Virginia, 1609 and also to the late Admiral Sir John Cotton who is claimed to be the brother of Leonard Cotton Jr.

Mary was born on April 24th, 1759. She died at the age of 59 on July 29th, 1818.
