PIERS DE MAULEY the Third, son and heir by 2nd wife, born 22July 1249. In 1277 he was summoned to perform military servicein person against Llewelyn, acknowledging the service of 2knights' fees, and was similarly summoned in 1282 and 1283. On28 June 1283 he was summoned to attend the assembly to be heldat Shrewsbury on 30 September. On 21 August 1279, the King'ssteward was ordered to deliver to him his father's lands, as hehad rendered homage. In 1282, described as Petrus tercius, hequitclaimed to Whitby Abbey the manors of Dunsley, Newholm, andStakesby and other property in and near Whitby, in terminationof a dispute about the boundaries of his manors of Mulgrave andEgton. In 1283 his presentee was instituted to the church ofLockington. On 13 May 1285 he had licence to alienate inmortmain to the priory of Grosmont in Eskdale land of the yearlyvalue of 20œ. in Blakehou moor. On 15 July 1287 he was summonedto a military council at Gloucester, and shortly afterwards madean agreement with Edmund de Mortimer of Wigmore to attend him inthe war in Wales against Rhys ap Meredith. In 1291 he wassummoned to be at Norham on 3 June for military service againstthe Scots, and he had letters of protection until Christmas forstaying in Scotland. In 1294 he was summoned to perform militaryservice in person in Gascony, and to be at the military councilat Worcester on 21 November for service against the Welsh. Hewas summoned to Parliement from 24 June 1295 to 11 June 1309, bywrits directed Petro de Malolacu, whereby he is held to havebecome LORD MAULEY. On 21 August 1297 he was granted, for hisservices in Gascony, the marriage of Thomas de Multon, ofGilsland, and in 1299 he was released from being a hostage inLondon by reason of his debt to the merchants of Bayonne forexpenses incurred by him in Gascony. In the same year he wassummoned again for military service ainst the Scots. As Petrusde Malo Lacu, dominus de Mulgreve, he took part in the Barons'Letter to the Pope, 12 February 1300/1. In 1305 and from 1306 to1308 he was appointed to various commissions of oyer andterminer.

He married, in or before 1273, Nichole, sister of Gilbert DEGAUNT [LORD GAUNT], and 2nd daughter and coheir of Sir GilbertDE GAUNT, of Folkingham, &c., co. Lincoln, and Healaugh, co.York. She is said to have died in 1284, and been buried inHazlewood chapel, near Tadcastcr. He died 6 September 1308.[Complete Peerage VIII:560-2, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
