Rev. Stephen S. Skaggs was born about 1820 in Green Couty and married Sally Skaggs Johnson in Green County on 5 July 1843. He probably lived in the Hibernia area and was listed as performing one marriage at Corinth Baptist Church. He was never a Pastor at the Church. The Corinth Church was established in 1870 with Rev. A. J. Whitley as the first pastor. Rev. S. S. Skaggs married people in LaRue County beginning in 1866 and into the 1870's.
In the 1850 Green County Census, Stephen Skaggs is head of household 166. He is a farmer and 30 years of age. His wife, Sarah, is 31. the children are: Nancy, 11; Mary, 6; there is a laborer living in the house, Richard Skaggs, age 21, born in Louisiana.
I believe this Richard Skaggs is possibly the Richard Wade Skaggs that is buried in Otter Creek cemetery in LaRue County, Kentucky.

In the 1870 LaRue County census, Otter Creek District, Stephen S. Skaggs, was family #13. He was 50 years old and his wife, Sarah S., was 52. Their children: William T., 15; and Henry T., age 13.

In January 2002 my family file for Rev. Stephen Skaggs indicated he died in 1897. According to the 1880 Taylor County census he may have died much earlier. Sarah was listed as head of household 168 living in the Oak Hill Precinct of Taylor County. She was a widow, age 62 years. Living with her was her widowed daughter, Mary Kinkead (sic), age 35. Her children with her were: William Kinkead, 13; Stephen, 10; Sarah J., 7; and Lydia, age 1 year.
