  Jim Weber Writes: "According to postings to the soc.genealogy.medieval, Mathilda de Turenne was not the wife of Hugh II of Burgundy, but Mathilda de Mayenne was. However, since Ancestral Roots (along with many other sources) gives Mathilda de Turenne as the wife, and nothing is certain in the world of medieval genealogy, I will leave her as a wife, although not as a mother of any of the children."

  "Alan B. Wilson wrote: 'On Thu, 27 Mar 1997, William Addams Reitwiesner, responding to a request by Jim Stevens, provided an ancestry for Andre of Burgundy, called 'Guigues VI', Count of Albon. His great-grandfather was Hugh II Borel, Duke of Burgundy, d. 1143.
  
  "'In Europaische Stammtafeln ii, 20, Hugh is is reported to have married circa 1115 Mathilde of Mayenne, urk [mentioned in documents] 1125/62, d. Beaune after 1162, buried there at Notre-Dame. The gist of this is reported by WAR.
  
  "'Moriarty in "Plantagenet Ancestry," pp 48 & 114, Describes Hugh II as marrying circa 1106 Mathilda of Turenne, mentioned 1131 and 1162, d. Beaune after 1162, dau. of Boso I, Vicomte of Turenne, d. 1091.
  
  "'Winkhaus in "Ahnen zu Karl dem Grossen und Widukind," pp. 52 & 177 has the same information as Moriarty: i.e., Mathilde of Turenne, sister of Raimund I of Turenne, dau. of Boso I of Turenne, d. Beaune after 1162, urk. 1131-1162, m. circa 1106 Hugo II of Burgundy.
  
  "'J. D. Joannis with P. d'Herbecourt in "Les Seize Quartiers Genealogiques des Capetiens," ii, 421 & 474 also show Matilde of Turenne, dau. of Boso I, vcte of Turenne, as wife of Hugh II.
  
  "'Stuart in "Royalty for Commoners," who usually tries to follow ES, in this case at 60:30 lists Mathilde of Turenne, dau. of Boso I, vicomte of Turenne as wife of Hugh II. So does Turton's earlier "Plantagenet Ancestry" on p. 200.
  
  "'One does not find a Mathilde listed among the children of Boso I, vicomte of Turenne in ES iii, 766. Nor does one find any Matilde listed in the families of the Sires of Mayenne in ES xiii, 133. So far as I have found, "Matilde of Mayenne", reported in ii, 20 as Hugh II's wife, is not further known in ES.
  
  "'While I hold ES in high regard, I know that none of these compilations is error free. Can anyone refer me to any historical studies of good repute on the houses of Turenne, and/or Mayenne, and/or the Dukes of Burgundy (house of Capet) for this period which might clarify the identity of the wife of Hugh II Borel?'
  
  "Here is a case where safety in numbers does not hold. The identity of Matilda as sister of Robert de Turenne (Chaume's?) was derived in part to explain the use of the name Robert in the next generation of Burgundy. However, in an article by J. Richard in Annales de Bourgogne, in which he discusses the wives of 12th and 13th century Burgundian Dukes, there are several primary documents that allow her identity to be determined. A couple provide her with toponyms, being the names of possessions within the Mayenne holding, while another names the mother of Matilda, and that name matches that of the wife of Walter de Mayenne. Thus ES is on top of things in replacing Turenne with Mayenne."
