Basham 80 80 Obediah Basham was born 7 April 1758 in Cumberland County, Virginia. He married Celia Dowell 5 Sep 1782 in Bedford County, Virginia. He served in the Continental Army as a private from 1777 to 1779 under Capt. John Lee. He received a pension. He moved his family to Breckinridge County, Kentucky, about year 1811 and settled near Hardinsburg where the family lived until 1826 when they moved to a farm in the Bewleyville District. He died 28 May 1840 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, and was buried in Norton's Valley Cemetery.

We believe it is intirely possible that Agness Angella is his mother. We know pretty well, Obediah got hold of some of Wm Sr's land. We are guessing how that happened. I am trying to write about the first 3 generations as fast as I can and I am counting on all of you to put in your opinions. I will give you all the records that we have for: Old New Kent, Hanover, Cumberland, Bedford, Franklin, and where some of the 3rd generation went. I will tell you the 2nt generation ONLY comprises Wm Jr and Jeremiah. We think all of us come from these two brothers."

Revolutionary War Pension Application
Obediah Basham of Breckenridge County, KY declares that he enlisted in 1777 or 1778 in Cumberland County, Virginia under Capt. John Lee inthe 1st Virginia Regiment of Col. Parker for three years. He was transferred to Capt. Joseph Carrington's Company, then at Petersburg, was transferred to Capt. Tolliver's (sic) Company, was taken prisoner at Charlestown, was sent by water to Williamsburg and was discharged.
Obediah owned 50 acres of land worth about $150.00, one horse, two cows, and three calves. In Feb. 1823 he sold the land to Henry Basham. One horse and some money went to pay his debts. His family consists of his wife, Celia, age 60 and son Francis age 15. Obediah Basham of Breckenridge County, Kentucky, Private in the Regiment of Col. Parker in the Virginia Line for three years was placed on the Kentucky Pension Roll at $8.00 per month under the Act of 14818 from 25 July 1818. Certificate #9411 was issued 14 April 1819. In the name of God amen, I, William Basham of the county of Breckenridge and State of Kentucky being of sound mind and disposing memory and knowing that it is appointed for man once to die do make this my last will and testament hereby revoking all heretofore made by me. I do it more particularly because of having children among whom the laws of my county would accomplish a distribution of my property contrary to my wish, will, and desire. The names of these children are as follows to wit:
My daughter Elizabeth Meadows, Lucy Simons, Celia Richardson, Roady Pain, Peggy Crume, Polly Basham wife of Berry Basham and my son Uriah Basham and my grandchildren Nancy Basham and Polly Basham, children of my deceased son Cary Basham, to the above named children and grandchildren I have nothing except my wish for their prosperity having heretofore given to them and the father of my grandchildren all that I ever intend to give them. I now therefore command bedqueath of my estate in the manner and form following. To wit:
First after my funeral espenses are paid, I give and bequeath to my son Barnet Basham one hundred and twelve acres of land including the farm on which I now live being a part of an hundred and sixty two acres tract which I purchased of Charles Crumes and wife. I also give and bequeath to him all my stock of every description in farming utensils, my household, and kitchen furniture but during his mother's lifetime she is to keep her own out of it all I have given my said son Barnet if she chooses. I give and bequeath all the aforesaid property to my aforesaid son Barnet not only on account of his natural love and affection I have for him as a son, but for the value and service I have rec'd of him by me.
Secondly, I give and bequeath to my son-in-law Stephen Nottingham fifty acres of land including that on which he now lives being the balance of the aforesaid one hundred and sixty two acres tract. I do hereby appoint my aforesaid son Barnet and my son-in-law Stephen Nottingham my Executors of this my last will and testament. Given under my hand and seal this 17th day of December 1824.

William Basham County Court Monday November 17th 1834 The noted writing purporting to be the last will and testament of William Basham deceased was produced in court by Barnet Basham one of the Executors therein named and was duly proved by the oath of Dan'l Stephens and Rock (??) of the subscribing writings thereto and was sworn to Barnet Basham one of the Executors and on hand to be recorded.

Cumberland County Deed Book 5, page 1: " 28 October 1771 William Bassham of Bedford County sells to Nathan Glen 200 acres lying on the great Guine Creek where his father William Bassam lived and deceased." His brother Jeremiah is mentioned as his land bordered his land.
