Transcript of Last Will and Testament of
Martha (Courtney) Garner - Rout - Booth
In the name of God amen. I Martha Booth of the parrish of St. Stephens of County of Northumberland being sick and weak but of sound mind & memory blessed be to God for the same do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following I commit my soul to its maker hoping in & through the merrits and Sufferings of my Blessed redeemer to have full pardon of all my sins & a glorious resurrection and my Body to be decently buried at the discretion of my Exors. & as for what worldly State it hath pleased God to give me I give as followeth. I give and bequeath all my land that lies on Occoquan which is about two hundred Acres being the land my husband George Rout gave me I give it to my daughter Martha Rout & her husband Peter for and during their natural lifes and the life of the longest liver & at their decease I give it to their son, George Rout and his heirs forever. I likewise give my daughter Martha & her husband Peter Rout my negro woman Lucey to them & their heirs forever and her future Issue and Increase after my decease, also I give to my said son in law of my daughter my great Bible. Item - I give to my granddaughter Jean Oldham & her husband George twenty five pounds cash being the sum I sold my negro girl Sarah for I also give unto the aforesaid Jean & George Oldham my best bed and furniture, Item - I give to my granddaughter Betty Garner daughter of Vinson Garner my negro girl Judy & her increase to my said granddaughter Betty Garner and it is my will that my negro girl shall be hired out and the profits go to my sd. granddaughter Betty & heirs forever, I also give to her the sd. Betty Garner my next feather bed and if I get any furniture for it before I die I give it also to my sd. granddaughter Betty. I also give said granddaughter Betty Garner one Cow and Stear they being on the plantation where I now live as also I give her one Chest & Table, Item - I give to James Garner the son of James Garner my negro girl named Lucy & her increase to him her said James Garner & his heirs, I also give him one Cow big with calf and a Young Stear when he comes of age or marries. Item - I give to my granddaughter Winifred Garner one Cow Yearling on this Plantation. Item - after my debts and funerall Expenses paid I give all the rest of my Estate of what nature and quality soever not being given to be Equally divided betwixt my two granddaughters Jean Oldham & Betty Garner to them and their heirs forever - lastly I appoint Sam Winstead & Thos. Williams Exors. of this my last will and testament this 5 of April, 1757.
