He use to bring a horse to church and let her ride it home when they were courting.
He had already prepared a home with a handyman when he asked her to marry him.
Jacob Wingert was a confederate soldier in Civil War, but he was a sympathizer with the Union cause.
He was captured and served as POW at Point Lookout in Maryland.
After the war in 1867, he left Bedford, Va with wife, Juliann Matilda Ashwell and 5 children and moved to Indiana. They ran a successful tile making business in Montgomery Co, Indiana.
