1870 [28 Feb] John W. O'Bryan bought about 53.5 acres of land in Lyon Co. on the Tennessee River for 230 dollars. John W. purchased it from Berry Bridges. The whole portion of land [of which John bought one-half] was originally patented on 27 July 1835 to: Nancy, Polly, David S., Berry I., and Elizabeth Bridges, and Susan Bannister. O'Bryan's portion was beside that owned by R. J. Bridges. 70 dollars of the payment for this land was in the form of promissory note between John W. and Barney Orr. From the book, "ONE LAST LIMB" by JOHNNIE ELIZABETH ORR HICKEY, 1988 Page 3 ORR
It first appeared that the Orr Family History was impossible to trace beyond Grandfather Barney Orr. Little by little information continued to emerge, contacts were made and remote names and dates fell into place. My sisters made me cry when I was little when they told me that they found me in the woods in a hollow log! Apparently this was a family joke since others have told me they were told that. There were several woodsmen in the Orr family. Well, this log just kept putting out new sprouts and it has matured into a full grown tree. The brothers and sisters of the Barney Orr Family were very close after the deaths of their parents. However, very few written records were kept. A visit to Pope County Arkansas revealed that Barney did not leave a will. In 1909, Isaac Newton petitioned the Court and was appointed Administrator for the purpose of selling the property and settling debts. The property was described as "The North half(1/2) of the Northwest quarter(1/4) of Section twenty(26) in Township nine(9) North Range twenty one(21)West containing eighty (80) acres" The property was appraised by J A Moore at $300. and was sold to the highest bidder, W R Reynolds for $300. in Jan 1910. Dr C K Campbell's bill from April 3, 1909 with .06% interest to Jan 17, 1910, totaled $25.32. Another debt of $75.00 was [aod tp K F Hays, noted "Medical services during last sickness". The surplus was equally divided between the six living heirs and the Guardians of the minor children of the deceased heirs. Each heir received the sum of $16. 25. The marriage licenses and certificates for Alwilda Orr and JW Dennen and for Isaac Newton and Mollie Smith are also on file in the Pope County Courthouse in Russellville, Arkansas. My thanks to Eva Sewell Jackson and James Cuthbertson for sharing their memories, records and photos and to Marjorie Orr, Eddyville, Kentucky , who furnished me copies of Barney and Mary Ann's marriage license, civil war record and pension application that gave new information as well as verified some already on record. Further credit will be given Marjorie as the Branches of this Tree unfold. For now, I would like you to meet Barney and Mary Ann and as many of their decendants as I have been able to muster so far.

Apr 9, 2003, I visited the Pope Co., AR courthouse, Russellville, and obtained a copy of Barney Orr Estate settlement. There was no will, Isaac Newton Orr petitioned the Court 20 Oct 1909 and was appointed administrator of the estate. The property was sold for $300.00 and debts of $25.32 paid to Dr. Campbell, $75.00 to K F Hayes. The surplus was divided between the six living heirs, and guardian of minor children, Heirs: Julia Sewell, Lizzie Sewell, Clara Long, Wesley Orr, Alwilda Drake, Isaac Orr and S V Collins for Gladys and Robert Orr Collins children of Lula(Orr) Collins, Callie Orr, widow of William Justice Orr for Myrtle, Oscar and Albert Orr.
