David Balfour 
David was born about 1523 in Montquanie, Kilmany, Fifeshire, Scotland. David's father was Sir Andrew Balfour and his mother was Janet Bruce. His maternal grandparents were 1st of Earlshall Sir Alexander Bruce and Janet Stuart. He had three brothers and a sister, named Commendator of Melrose Michael, Sir Gilbert, Sir James and Isobel. He was the second youngest of the five children.-
