Her family moved to Kentucky when she was six. He family later
moved to Hickman,Tennessee and bought a farm with their World War I
bonus money. She remembers picking cotton for 5 cents a day and
walking two or three miles to church. She dropped out of school in
the tenth grade and later got her GED. Her first job was working
