Narrative
He was also known as "Matthias." He came to this country in 1858, andlived in Ohio for about 15 years before settling in Perry County,Indiana in the early 1870's.
He was a soldier by profession, and served in several batteries duringthe Civil War. His obituary referred to him as a "well liked andhighly respected citizen of Anderson Township."
Mattis and Katherine evidently had several children, but Lena andMattis, Jr. are the only ones who survived their father.
