Robert Campbell ( ? - ? ) camd from Scotland, perhaps by way ofLondonderry, Ireland with James Campbell, who may have been a relativesince both are said to be of the Houwse of Argyle, arriving in Boston,Mass in 1728. James settled in Londonderry, N.H. Robert, a mariner, wasof Gloucester, Mass when he married in 1738 Mary Peirce, a daughter ofJohn Peirce. Richard, son of Robert and Mary Campbell, was baptized in1739 at Gloucester, Mass.
Robert married second in 1744 at Boston, Mass Deborah Norwood, youngestchild of Caleb Norwood, formerly of Gloucester, but innkeeper at Bostonat the time of his death in 1735. Robert and Deborah were ofLondonderry, N.H. where Robert was an innkeeper, when their son James wasborn in 1745 (a few years after Samuel, son of the immigrant JamesCampbell was born there, and who later became known as Col. SamuelCampbell of Cherry Valley, N.Y. His brother-in-law, Andrew Cannonmarried Deborah, one of the daughters of Robert and Deborah Campbell).No record of the deaths of either Robert or his wife Deborah can befound. They may never have left New Hampshire, though some of theirchildren were living in the vicinity of Chester, Mass at the time oftheir marriage.
