Osten was a skilled carpenter. He planned and supervised the building of the Goose River Church. He also made the altar that is in the church. This was one amongst the sveral altars that he made. In 1908, he cut logs from his own grove and built his log cabin. He had planted his own trees in 1878.
The Goose River Church burned to the ground the night before it's 100 year anniversary, it was hit by lightening. A large family party had been planned for years.
