James Orr, father of Mary Orr, was considered a non-conformist and was beheaded during the siege of Derry. His head was placed on a spear, in public, as a warning to the enemy.
According to history, Derry was surrounded and the city held captive by the Catholic forces. Many months later English forces, sent by the Protestant King, fought the enemy and freed the town.
Note: According to history books, this Orr line was descended from Jacques De Bourcecault-the first family to flee from France to Ireland. In 1688 Haquenot refugees, including the descendants from Sire de Boucecault, a marshall of France. Later, a family member was is the Court of Napoleon-also from Hart. (pg. 528)
