Casper crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the service of His Brittanic Majesty. Although the subject of the reigning house of Hessel Cassel, Germany, he served the American cause for freedom and settled in Pennsylvania. [So you can see he was a deserter from the English cause.] It would not have been healthy for him to return to Germany.
He was nineteen years of age when he came to America. From legend we gather that after the war he lived in Franklin County, PA, until the time of his marriage in 1786 or 1787. There is nothing known of brothers or sisters he may have had. He was born on February 25, 1759, near Hessen, Germany. His wife, Christrina Puterbaugh, was born January 19, 1767, in Franklin County, PA. They were married about 1786 or 1787. He was a man of medium stature, and Mrs. Dilling wasa large woman.
To this union twelve childen were born, two of whom died in infancy. Of those who grew to adluthood we give the dates found in a Bible owned by the Daily sisters who lived on Clover Creek.
